Hello, I downloaded several .avi files with grokster and all but one of them worked, it didn't have audio, and I thought that if I updated all my programs I was trying to view it with it might work. So I updated Divx, and Media Player. Now When I tried to use it with virtual dub it worked. So I went on to the next file, but it wouldn't work now, but it worked before... I am really confused, but I thought that I would look for a solution online and I found a person with pretty much the same problem, but the person that answered the question left a url to answer the problem, and the url goes to an error page. When I try to split the .avi files with Virtual dub it gives me this error message... "Couldn’t locate decompressor for format ‘DIV3’ (Microsoft High-Speed MPEG-4 V3 [Hack: DivX Low-Motion]) VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VWF) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable." Please help me I am just learning how to use these kinds of files, and I have no Idea what to do.
OK since you said avi files i suggest using a program called gspot which can be found in the software section of this site. Load your movie into the program and itll tell you whether you have the right codecs needed to view the movie. For that one movie with the error you need either or both divx 3 and divx 4 codecs. Im not sure where to find those since they are outdated but if you look around the net or ask someone you might be lucky enough to find it. If i were you id go into some anime discussion boards and ask them for these codecs since most of them have a lot of anime files that use those particular codecs...good luck.
