hello everyone, i am totally new to afterdawn and i am so happy i found it. i need help because first off i read this dvd burning guide and it told me to insall virtual dub. so first i just wanna know what virtual dub exactly. secondly when i opened my video in virtual dub, something goes wrong because when i try to play the video, it says something like audio decompressor not found so i wonder what that is. once again i am totally new to this so any help would be great. thnx
VirtualDub (and variants) is used to edit video files and save them as .AVI files. It is often used to resize video, extract audio or apply special effects through various filters. As you found out, it requires codecs to process some files - a good example would be if you were trying to create a DivX video file to play in a standalone player. What exactly are you trying to do?
well i was following the steps of a dvd burning guide and it said to open ur avi. files in virtual dub to see if u get this message when you click play. "VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI and will rewrite.....etc" but when i clicked play, it gave me the audio compressor error. so i just want to know how to fix it.
Was it a guide on Afterdawn? That message from VirtualDub about VBR is common. It's simply because most AVI files are created using a variable bit rate audio and the creator of VDub regards that as an error.
no it was from another site. movie-codec.com i think. anyways how do i fix the problem for the audio decompressor? i tried downloading AC3 Decompressor but i dont know how to install it because its not like anyother programs where there is a setup application file. so i need help with that.
thats what i did but then it just seemed like nothing happened and the when i clicked play again, the same message came
If it's installed there should be an entry that can be seen with Control Panel > Add/Remove programs.
actually the link i had was dead, can u give me a place where i can download AC3, thnx for the pictute, im sure it will help a lot
hey i finally installed AC3 but when i click play on virtual dub the error still comes up heres what it exactly says: No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format.(source format tag: 0055)
Drag the file onto GSpot and check that the audio is AC3 codec. http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/GSpot270a.zip
No, it will indicate the format of the audio and video files and furthermore it will tell you if in fact the required codecs are installed and available on your PC. I'm not sure that Virtualdub has anything to do with your original object of converting an avi file to DVD. What program are you trying to use to convert the AVI to DVD and why is it telling you to use VirtualDub?
If you push button 1 to render the file then button 2, does the video and audio play in GSpot? If it does then there's nothing wrong with the file. If you wish to convert it to DVD and burn to disk, use these programs. http://dl.afterdawn.com/vsoDivxToDVD_setup_v0.5.2b.exe Import the file(s) (AVI, MPEG, VOB) Output (standard DVD file format) to a folder on the HDD. Set 'Aspect' to 4:3 (if you have a regular tv) Set 'Standard' to NTSC (if you live in North America) Burn dvd with 'ImgBurn' http://www.imgburn.com/ Run ImgBurn Mode > 'Build' Output > 'Device' File > 'Browse for Folder', highlight on the 'VIDEO_TS' folder, > 'OK' Click the green write button.
one more thing, is the audio_ts folder supposed to be empty? and if i try to play something from the video_ts folder, am i supposed to hea the audio? becuase i dont hear audio, only video. this is when i convert the video from a different program.
it was just listed as a step on that guide i mentioned earlier and it jsut said to click play in virtual dub so it could test VBR or somthing. i not entirely sure why it sais to do that but i just got a dvd burner and i dont relally know how to use it so i just tried everything on the guide.
I posted an earlier screenshot of 'GSpot' with pointers to the buttons, lower left of screen. The audio folder you refer to is always empty. It is part of the original specification and is always on the disk.
