VLC shows a time progress bar when playing M2TS files on my PC, but no audio or video appears. The files were recorded by a Sony Bravia TV on a USB memory stick. Has anyone else had this issue?
Do you know which codecs are used for the video/audio? Open the file in the portable version of MediaInfo to see if it lists them. http://www.videohelp.com/software/MediaInfo
Thanks for the reply. I tried what you suggested, and this is the text of the file analysis: General Count : 308 Count of stream of this kind : 1 Kind of stream : General Kind of stream : General Stream identifier : 0 Inform : Count : 308 Count of stream of this kind : 1 Kind of stream : General Kind of stream : General Stream identifier : 0 Inform : Count : 308 Count of stream of this kind : 1 Kind of stream : General Kind of stream : General Stream identifier : 0 Inform : 11.3 MiB Complete name : D:\video\00000011.m2ts Folder name : D:\video File name : 00000011 File extension : m2ts File size : 11796480 File size : 11.3 MiB File size : 11 MiB File size : 11 MiB File size : 11.3 MiB File size : 11.25 MiB Stream size : 11796480 Stream size : 11.3 MiB (100%) Stream size : 11 MiB Stream size : 11 MiB Stream size : 11.3 MiB Stream size : 11.25 MiB Stream size : 11.3 MiB (100%) Proportion of this stream : 1.00000 File last modification date : UTC 2015-07-24 08:47:38.870 File last modification date (local) : 2015-07-24 09:47:38.870 Complete name : D:\video\00000011.m2ts Folder name : D:\video File name : 00000011 File extension : m2ts File size : 11796480 File size : 11.3 MiB File size : 11 MiB File size : 11 MiB File size : 11.3 MiB File size : 11.25 MiB Stream size : 11796480 Stream size : 11.3 MiB (100%) Stream size : 11 MiB Stream size : 11 MiB Stream size : 11.3 MiB Stream size : 11.25 MiB Stream size : 11.3 MiB (100%) Proportion of this stream : 1.00000 File last modification date : UTC 2015-07-24 08:47:38.870 File last modification date (local) : 2015-07-24 09:47:38.870 Complete name : D:\video\00000011.m2ts Folder name : D:\video File name : 00000011 File extension : m2ts File size : 11796480 File size : 11.3 MiB File size : 11 MiB File size : 11 MiB File size : 11.3 MiB File size : 11.25 MiB Stream size : 11796480 Stream size : 11.3 MiB (100%) Stream size : 11 MiB Stream size : 11 MiB Stream size : 11.3 MiB Stream size : 11.25 MiB Stream size : 11.3 MiB (100%) Proportion of this stream : 1.00000 File last modification date : UTC 2015-07-24 08:47:38.870 File last modification date (local) : 2015-07-24 09:47:38.870 General Count : 308 Count of stream of this kind : 1 Kind of stream : General Kind of stream : General Stream identifier : 0 Complete name : D:\video\00000011.tlm Folder name : D:\video File name : 00000011 File extension : tlm File size : 840 File size : 840 Bytes File size : 840 Bytes File size : 840 Bytes File size : 840 Bytes File size : 840.0 Bytes Stream size : 840 Stream size : 840 Bytes (100%) Stream size : 840 Bytes Stream size : 840 Bytes Stream size : 840 Bytes Stream size : 840.0 Bytes Stream size : 840 Bytes (100%) Proportion of this stream : 1.00000 File last modification date : UTC 2015-07-24 08:47:38.880 File last modification date (local) : 2015-07-24 09:47:38.880
I don't see anything regarding video or audio codecs. Looking for something similar to this. In this case, the video is AVC and the audio is AC3. Yours says it's only 11 MB, perhaps upload to a file share and post the link?
m2ts is a variant of a proprietary M$ codec and is more usually found inside an .asf container.. IF you can find a m2s4 codec (think cccp has one) it should at least attempt to play something. The actual codec comes bundled with many others.. strange that you don't already have it.. maybe it's a missing one in VLC.. which should really be reported to the developersx as it's a common enough codec on them blu junk disks http://de.softonic.com/s/m2ts-codec
Most of my m2ts files are from Blu-rays directly, with VC-1 codec. But some camcorders seem to shoot in M2TS format with AVCHD structure or so. I guess you may narrow down the codec first.
