What I'm trying to do: I am recording video with my sony handycam (which uses little tiny dvd's). I am trying to take 10-15 second clips of this to put on my website (2 sites actually - family, and Martial Arts). Anyway, the file type on the disc is VOB. I have been trying to convert these to mpg format using two different programs, chopper xp and Xilisoft video converter 3. The problem is that I am losing a lot of quality in the conversion. They are coming out in the range of 160x120 resolution at 100%. I would like the dvd quality at around 640x480 at a minimum. Any thoughts on how I can do this? I am trying to not have to purchase any additional software if possible. Thanks in advance!
You are doing this incorrectly. VOB already has an Mpeg in there, it just needs to be extracted. Changing the VOB extension to MPG is usually good enough to get it to work, but another course of action is to use the free tool rejig to do it for you.
