I have a 30gb Ipod photo, and I dragged and dropped a load of music that I had recorded on musicmatch and imported the rest through Itunes.......

How do I get a constant volume level, rather than than massive variation that I am currently getting?

    All help appreciated

I'd put all ur music in iTunes first.
Then in iTunes, click on a song in your library and hit Ctrl-A. right click and hit Get Info. At the bottom of the window that pops up click the check box next to Volume Adjustment. Then set the setting of Volume Adjustment to -100, 0, or +100. That should work, it did for my nano.
