RE: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/71630 what anti-virus scanner would be best for my problem? what scanner is best in general? thanx
I use AntiVir and love it. It's freeware and does an outstanding job. I just got the new issue of MaximumPC today and they did a threeway shootout with Norton, MacAffe and AntiVir with AntiVir getting the vote. It caught everything the others did. It just doesn't have all the extra goodies Norton and MacAffe come with but then again it's free! It autoupdates regularly and stays out of your way. http://www.free-av.com/
I wouldn't recomend McAffe, has a lot of probelms. It screwed up some win98 settings and didn't detect a test virus I installed on my system. Norton is really good, but never try to uninstall it. This will screw up windows and I usually need to reformat after install. But From what I have used I like Norton the best and as a graduate student I get it free from UofT. If your a student, see if you University gives out licences to Norton or other antivirus software. This can be the cheapest way for software.
