hi. i use divx pro codec with the guide located here on how to convert dvd to divx. i have seen entire movies on cds using divx encoding and they look and sound great. however, i don't end up with such a high quality. the sound is find but the video is slightly blotchy - something i'd expect more of an svcd encoding. i know the guide says it is written to fit a movie on two cds but i know a one-cd divx movie is possible - so if anyone has some ideas please let me know. thanks.

for 1cd encoding it filtering the moise is a must. divx have it tools for that...
since i don't use divx anymore, its avisynth for all my filters.
my current favourite for denoising is degrainmedian and vaguedenoiser. more info at

    look for improving compressibility section.

i also suggest dumping divx and go with xvid 1.0.2 or the more advanced but unstable 1.1
    http://www.koepi.org/
    i use 1.1 and there's a quality improvement

what to turn on in xvid
    adaptive quantization.
use custom quantizer for 1cd encode such as jawor's 1 cd encode or anything.
    GMC
    2 bframes
    trellis
qpel is compressibility expensive so i wouldn't recommend it.

if that doesn't work you need to lower the resolution, which is not i would do.

anyway a dvd burner has gotten cheap...

    also try realvideo 10

Thanks so much for your help. I have several DVD burners but I want to be able to compress some video more and put one movie on a CD and also put several divx or xvid movies on one DVD.

    Thanks again.
