hi , i have several dvd-r's that is a few years old that still play fine but are on low quality disc such as memorex and maxell . i wanted to back them uo with may ty or verbatim disc of higher quality so i won't lose anything . my question what is the best way or program to use to not lose the quality of the original dvd -r . i have imgburn , also dvd decrypter along with nero 6.6.018 . what speed should i burn at , also i thought about making a iso image thru imgburn and then burn . i just didn't want to lose any quality when burning the new disc , i just wanted to know the best method to make a backup and keep the quality the same . thanks
Since you will be making 1:1 copies of discs and not shrinking a DVD-9 movie down to fit on a DVD-5 disc I dont think there would be a problem with any of the programs you mentioned. Whichever program you like best, I'd personally use Nero because I press copy DVD and 2 or 3 mouse clicks later its done.
Just don't forget, do not burn too fast. Your movies were burned on low quality discs, and depending on how they were burned( too fast, too close to the edge of the disc), some might give you some read errors. In this case I think Nero would be rather feeble as a ripper, and DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn would be more effective.If the disc is problematic, also slow down the read speed. If the disc is good, I would also go for Nero.
I'd go with the Imgburn. Both dvd decrypter and imgburn are great. ImgBurn seems to be a more aggresive ripper than dvd decrypter.Pretty quick too.Both are pretty darn identical. Should take less than 5 mins to rip.
In build mode, select the input as your DVD-ROM drive, and rip the disc. Not decrypt, just rip an unprotected disc.
I use the Mode/Read to harddrive when I need to rip some of my older backups. Then mode/write. Just like the old dvd decrypter Mode/ISO read and write. I use it on the few DL's that I backup as well and seems to be ok. The original Imgburn had no ripping capability.Now it's got one heck of a ripper,when it comes to ripping through crc errors.
I finallty installed ImgBurn and I am playing with it(don't DL, so never really needed it). It looks pretty good!
I had a monster of a crc error on my HarryPotter 2,both original and the only backup copy that was on a fuji Yuden000-T02. No other program was able to rip them,especially dvd decrypter's Rip with Brute force enabled.. Imgburn coasted right through the original,and now I have a good backup from it on Ty-G03. It impressed me pretty good. I'll have to dig out a couple of my naughty flicks that also had crc errors and see if imgburn can get through them.
If you wouldnt watch the same 10 minute clip over and over there wouldnt be a bad spot on the disc...LOL
