I was using the free version of nero with dvd shrink. I am on an extremely tight budget or i would buy nero. It is now timed out and will not work. It was so easy to make backups of my dvd's. is there a free program to use instead of nero just for video? I dont need it to do audio. I looked all through the forums but didnt really find my answer.

    thx,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Since you're already using Shrink, you can download DVD Decrypter which is free and Shrink will use that to burn just like it did with Nero.

With Shrink after you click the "Backup!" button, under "Select target device" choose "ISO Disc Image" then tick the box for "Launch DVD Decrypter to burn the output image" and you're good to go :)

DVD Decrypter when you first go to back up a DVD with shrink when it ask you how you want to back it up you should be able to drop the scroll bar down and pick ISO and at the button a little box will pop up check burn auto with decrypter.
Decrypter will do the burn after shrink is dune. Did you use the guide ScubaPete wrote foe it? You have ScubaPete to thank for this great Guide.

I say, Iffin ya read da threads around here-a-bouts you'll come across an "Uncle" ScubaPete Guide - YA FOLLOW ALL THE DIRECTIONS AND ALL OF THE SETTINGS -
Anyway, it's a big thingie - Kind of looks like this -

Here we go, step by step - it can’t fail.

First create a folder for your HD backup. Try to put it someplace where you won’t forget it (i.e. C:/All DVD Work/My movie Name).

Next download DVD Decrypter and under mode select “ISO, Write”. Un-tick the box that says “verify”. Where it says “source”, you’ll leave that blank as DVD Decrypter will find the location of your backed up DVD file automatically. Lastly, where it says “Destination”, select the drive where your burner resides. Feel free to close DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink will open it when it needs it.

The link for the newest DVD Decrypter -
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm

Download DVD Shrink. Open it and click “Edit”, then click “Preferences” on this page we’re going to select “DVD Target Size” as custom and set the size as 4360MB - we do this to make extremely sure that our disc isn’t too large. Then under the “File I/O” tab un-tick “Enable burning with Nero” then click “OK”.

The link for the newest DVD Shrink -
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm

Place your original DVD in your DVD-ROM drive and a DVD blank in your burner’s drive. DO USE Ritek G04, Verbatim or media boasting “Advanced AZO Dye. All other media could very well cause errors, only the very best media should be used for DVD Video backups. Now is defiantly not the time to put your crappy cheap stuff in - )

Now, take just a second and under “Target Device” go to “Select target device” once there, select “ISO Disc Image”. NEXT, IMPORTANT, tick “Launch DVD Decrypter to burn the output image” box. Finally, where it says “Select target image file”, browse till you find your created folder for your backup and click “Save”. That’s it ! Click “OK” and DVD Shrink burns that ISO image to your HD. It then opens DVD Decrypter and has it burn the ISO image to your waiting blank DVD.
Don’t use your PC for anything at all while it’s working. -

I'M NOT KIDDING ! STAND BACK FROM THE COMPUTER !

    * There have been issues where playing your DVD on your burner may result in errors during processing :-(

    Enjoy,

Pete. You will not find a better Guide than this good luck.

You call that hard that guide its 1/2/3 if you ask me. Your going to have pick save hard disc folder for Nero or save as ISO disc Image for decrypter. You are going to have to make the folder if you pay for Nero or get decrypter for free. You need to be able to find the DVD file to delete it the file is hard to find thats why you make the folder and put a short cut for your desk top so one click you can delete it in-less you want to spend 5 min looking for it. Other than that when you pick ISO the little box pops up in the bottom box check it other than pressing start and changing the disc your dune. If your want to buy Nero thats fine like I said your still going to want to make that folder and shortcut to make it easier on your self. After you pick ISO every time you burn it will be set to ISO.(select target image) just save the to the folder you made. If you still can not burn reading this and with ScubaPete burning guide go buy Nero because it dose not get any easier than this.

Freakmode, if your system uses FAT then you can't use ISO, you have to save to the hard-drive. Maybe that is why you are not seeing that option. Windows ME uses FAT. I'm not sure if you can use Decrypter for saving video_ts files or not.

I'm on a tight budget also, but I was able to get a legit copy of Nero 6 OEM on ebay for $9, shipping included in this total. (Assuming you are in the US.) The seller was a powerseller and had thousands of positive feedbacks after their name, so must be legit. Unfortunantly, the OEM copy doesn't include Recode, but burns just great in conjunction with Shrink.

If a person is happy with Shrink and has no need for Recode/NeroVision/etc, an OEM copy of Nero 6 is just the ticket :)

yeah i followed the directions word for word and when it was all said and done my blank dvd+r has on it the video_ts file and the audio_ts file on it. Which you can watch thru a computer but you can't watch it in a standalone dvd player. I dont know what i did wrong. It seemed as if it was working and going thru the steps off being burned. But that is what i ended up with on my disc. Maybe I am just a dumbass when it comes copying my dvd's. I never had a problem with nero though. I will try the ebay way though to get nero. good idea.

    thx everyone.

Try Clone DVD to burn your back up files. Go to www.elby.ch They have a 30 day trial also. I like it very much.
