When my computer is started, Windows XP, I'm receiving the following pop-ups as follows:

Would you like to fun WAS5Scan.exe - I have searched the internet on this one and I am finding no way to get rid of this.

Secondly I receive Error Loading C:\Windows\Image.dll

Thirdly it states it is trying to open file TFTP2720

I have no idea if I am in the right place. I am here because this is the only forum recognizing WAS5Scan on search engines.

    Thanks.

thanks for such a quick response...two problems have arisen

#1 - spybot will not let me install detection updates...when I search and then download updates in re: Detection rules it states !!!bad checksum!

#2 - I could not locate the virus and spyware scan with the last link

I'm also realizing now that I did not run in safemode. How do I do this? Since I've done the other tests not in safemode, I'm assuming I should do them again, correct?

I did figure out the problem with #2...still not sure about #1...I did run the tests in the order you mentioned, but I can't complete the spybot search due to what I mentioned before (#1)...any ideas?

I tried starting in safe mode. Nothing happened. I was unable to do anything as my screen froze with some information written above and safe mode written on the bottom left and right of my screen. I'm still having problem with Spybot, but the problem is different now. I get a socket error and problem accessing updates. I also had explorer pop up about 63 times after starting my computer which seems an awful lot like some kind of worm. I have eTrust EZ antivirus which does not detect anything. I was unable to download the avg antivirus as well (claiming I might have some firewall up preventing the download which I do not). This is frustrating. My wife is about to divorce me with the amount of time this is taking (that's just a joke of course).

i presume you have 2 computers because you are posting here on 1. if both computers are using xp or below than take the sick hd & set it up on the secondary ide port in place of the rom drives & run those programs we posted to see if can find anything on the sick hd

Just one computer. I'm able to access the internet in regular mode. I just have the problem in safe mode. Everything is slower, but still working fine.

Scan completed. I did pick up one trojan which was deleted. I've yet to restart to see results/changes. Will try in the morning.

The main reason this came up as the main (default) server selected is currently unavailable, has problems or too many people trying to download the updates from that specific server. When you update, just change the server location you want to download from.

Here are two other anti-virus apps you can use. These are stand-alone versions, meaning they only detect a specific number of worms/viruses/trojans...

    McAfee Stinger: http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?path=/virusInfo/virusRemoval/Stinger.asp

    Nod 32: http://i1.edskes.com/n/nod32_20050908.exe

Thanks for all of your help so far. I'm still having problems, albeit somewhat different ones now. I've run every program you have mentioned with the exception of spybot which I still can not get to work. I still have not been able to access safemode as I mentioned ealier. I have found a total of 5 worms/trojans/viruses. These are the problems I still have.

Windows explorer is still popping up about 70 times when I start the computer. I then at some point get a message telling me my computer is at-risk and that I should install "winfixadware" or something like that. When I try to x out or cancel it directs me to the download anyway and tries to get me to make this download.

    Thanks.

I was now able to run spybot which did not detect any threats.

I've never heard of regedit. I could ask around. Why do you ask? I'm quite sure I have some virus I've yet to identify. Will this help?
