Is there anyway to convert Wav files to MP3 format?

Right now, I burn Wav files onto a CD, then open Nero and "Save track" and save all the files as MP3.

I'd rather just convert wav to MP3 without having to burn anything.

    Thanks all!

LAME is the best encoder utility for converting uncompressed audio files to mp3. EAC stands for Exact Audio Copy and is the best (and free) ripper available. as weazel mentioned, EAC can also take WAV files and convert them into mp3. follow this guide for installing/using EAC and LAME here:

I need HELP!! For the life of me I cannot get the songs from the CD I want to an MPEG Layer 3 Audio or whatever so I can get it onto my iTunes so I can put it on my iPod. I have never had this problem before with any CD. I have tried using EAC and I thought I had it but there was a synch error and when I played the file, it sounded like complete garbage....I would really appreciate some help and for someone to break it down for me, I have never had to use these type of programs before. Thanks for you help...
