I have a 1st gen WD TV and it does support DTS on the optical out only. I do not have a receiver with DTS so I need to recode the DTS audio on the MKV file to AC3. Is there a program that will do this, and do it simply ? I found MKVtoVOB and it will do it , BUT it changes the file extension to MPEG. Am I loosing and Video Quality in this process or am I just being paranoid. Ultimately I would like to have a MKV file in the end with AC3 audio. Am I asking too much. I dunno......
You can demux the video and audio from the source using MKVToolnix. Run MKVExtractGUI and select the video and audio. Run DAudioK and convert the demuxed DTS file to AC3. Run MKVMergeGUI and use the demuxed video and the new AC3 as source files. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MKVtoolnix http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DAudioK
your insight was exactly what I needed. I really appreciate it. It worked perfectly. It ran great one time through. I have Win7 32 bit 2 gig of ram and I get a runtime error 6. overload. I was converting aac to ac3. Is this not possible ?
