I have a two year old Dell monitor that doesn't show proper colors. Like the white is green. The colors are all weird. Any ideas?

CRT Phaser gun going out or bent/missing pin. This is a popular question. Easy quick test to see if the monitor is bad. Hit the menu button. If the menu screen is also affected then its time to go shopping.

In that case I would suspect your video card. If you have another on hand throw it in to see if it makes a difference.

OK then. Up there you said the menu works fine. I was not looking for a non functioning menu. I was looking to see if this weird color also changes the menus color. You did look for missing Pins didn't you?

OK if the Menu is changing colors then this indicates that something inside the monitor has gone bad. The Pins I keep talking about are at the end of the cord that goes into your video card.

Since the menu is affected by the colors then it is time to go sopping. Not worth repairing a monitor. I am assuming this is a CRT and not an LCD. One of the Phaser guns have gone bad inside the tube. You have a Red, Green and Blue (RGB) gun that put the image onto the screen. When one goes bad the colors are off over the entire screen. Same with a television.

I'm guessing it was a pin. Enjoy the color world.

oh wait, i forgot to tell the story behind the monitor. back in the day when i wasn't into computers and we got the monior, the dell support dude tried to help us, we went through all these weird menus and stuff and he couldn't figure out the problem with the monitor so dell sent us another one. now we have both, and they are both functional.
