I am having a difficulty with the multiburner that came with my Toshiba laptop (DVD+/- R/RW, CD+/- R/RW). I hope someone can help me with this problem. The burner burns CDRWs perfectly, but whenever I try to burn a CD-R, it fails operation after about 98% completion. I have tried using (1) the default program that came with the laptop, something called "Drag-and-drop CD/DVD" (which I have uninstalled promptly) (2) Roxio Easy CD and DVD creator (3) Nero Burning ROM (4) Windows own CD burning program, licensed by Roxio (5) Windows Media player for converting MP3s to audio CD format and burn them. Every time the same thing has happened: CDRW - fine, CD-R - coaster! There was a program called Microstaff ASPI, which, according to many fora on the net, causes trouble with burner software. I have uninstalled that also, but to no avail. Has anyone else had the same problem?
try different CDR media, and try burning at slower speed. if your laptop is new its probably under warranty so look into having it replaced
Thank you for replying. I should have mentioned that I used 4 different brands of CD-Rs to try out (Imation, Verbatim, HP, and Staples local brand), and made 4 differently-designed coasters!! I guess I can try different writing speeds, but some programs with embedded burning software (like Media Players - WMP, RealPlayer etc) do not offer that option and write at max permissible speed. Unfortunately, I realized the computer was just out of warranty!! Since I use mostly mobile hard disks and/or USB flash drives, I never really felt the necessity to write CDs before. And now this! I hope someone else has a different perspective on this...
