I've never run across this when backing up a movie, & i was wondering if anyone can help. I see there where no issues for people backing up this flick. While using dvd decrypter i got two of the folling messages, which i have never seen before "On the flu IFO/BOP file patching failed, Reason invalid IFO/BOP file". When i clicked ok to this error message the read rate went from like 3.8 to upwards of 11.0. Is it bad to have a read rate that fast? Anyways after ripping, i get to shrink i am forced to use re-author mode & it accepted every file. Like i siad i have never seen this before, wondering if my settings got messed up somehow or what? also one more question: Should i have DMA enabled when using programs dvd decrypter, shrink, & anydvd. Thanks in advance.

    Hi seadale
Try this - go to decrypter then tools>settings. Click on the 'default' button. This will set decrypter back to the default settings which should be good. (unless you are also running AnyDVD at the time - for this one you can turn it off).

If you do have AnyDVD on change these settings:
General tab - uncheck 'check for structure protection'
CSS tab - under CSS Cracking method check 'none'

Then go to mode and check file (if not already - iso read would be fine too).
Now re rip the movie and open again in Shrink.

Yes DMA should be on for all of your drives no matter what program you are using. Here's a guide to check - look in 'current transfer mode' too - DMA should also be listed there.

DVD Decrypter ripped MI3 smoothly within roughly 17:50 minutes. Below is a successfully ripped log of mine using DVD Decrypter. I'm ripping with DVDFAB Decrypter 3.0.3.5 and will report shortly.

I ripped this one using anydvd and dvd decrypter , worked perfect. as for using dvd d and anydvd together, all i did was change the interface to use the ElbyCDIO interface under the I/O settings.

thanks for the help, i've tried all the suggestions above. was able to back it up kind of but again i get 2 error messages while ripping using decrypter. the on the fly errors described at the top 1st post. again i have to use reauther mode, in shrink. i view the files & again, i have the numbers scrolling along @ the bottom of the picture. It would be too destracting to even watch the movie. i have never ran across this before, very frustrating. Wish i knew where i was going wrong. i even tried another copy of this film, thinkin i might have a bad disc, but no luck. I wanted to give you guys my log file, so mabe then you could figure it out, but i don't even know how to do that. :-((...any help would be greatley appreciated. Thanks again. P.S. Has any one seen this on the fly error message before? If so, what does it mean?

Nope haven't seen that error. If you want a log from decrypter press 'L' before you begin ripping. A log will start when you start ripping - doesn't save them automatically. You can copy and paste it.

Have you tried using Shrink on this one - nothing special on it.

Shrink will rip and compress saving the file to your hard drive.
If you just want to save it to the hard drive only under 'select backup target' pick 'hard drive folder'
Or if want to autoburn & have Nero pick your burner. If not then you can pick 'iso & burn w/ dvd decrypter'.
No matter what option Shrink will save to the hard drive.
You can run AnyDVD in the background w/ Shrink.

thankyou ever so much binkie, you always have the answers. learn something every day. I've used shrink for years & never knew you could rip with it. I'll give it a shot. I just hope all my settings are right. The only other movie i could not back up was "the Brothers Grimm" & that one had all kinds of protection. I'm a little concerned because no one else is have issues backing up this one.

lol - not always seadale - can't figure out why decrypter is giving you this error :)
Yeah this one only has the ole CSS protection and RCE protection (region coding enhancement - no biggie). Nothing Shrink or Decrypter can't handle. So it's odd esp if you're just using the default settings.

Not too many settings in Shrink to change to effect the ripping and compressing so you should be ok there.

Bros. Grimm - you should be able to do that one w/ AnyDVD and Shrink.

    Keep us posted!

not sure how to rip with shrink, but i clicked open files & got this error message. uuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggg. " Invalid DVD Navigation Structure" Tried another move & did not get this message. I'm not sure what the hell is going on. I tried quickly looking @ the shrink guide didn't really see anything about ripping, might have to look a little harder. Sorry to be a pain!!

Nah no pain - I wonder what is up with the disc(s) you have tried.

In Shrink not much too it - just pick 'open disc' if copying from the original (for this one you would pick that) or open files for files already on your hard drive.
Shrink will then analysis - when done remove the unwanted audios then click back up and select your backup target.

Another opinion to try on this one. Try ripping w/ AnyDVD. Have AnyDVD on - right click on the red fox then pick 'video-dvd to hard disc'. When done open those files in Shrink.

From what I can see from the log looks like the disc has some bad spots - you're getting read errors then skipping the bad files. May need to exchange the disc.
Something may be up with your drive too. (due to other problems you've had ripping other dvd's)
Might want blow it out w/ some compressed air or a dvd lens cleaner.

Update the firmware too - the latest is Hl24:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...tem=pv-42566-1&product=1151190&dlc=en&lang=en
Might also want to try ripping this disc on another pc and see what happens.

hi did what binkie suggested with the firmware, but i'm not sure how to apply it. it told me to put it on a disk & its in my computer after down load but then what? Os is it already working? For the hell of it i tried backing up another movie & there were no issues with that one. I think i may have gotten not one but two bad discs?

It should just be an .exe that you need to run to update the firmware.
When you run it - no discs in drive, no programs running and keep the power on.
Should only take a minute or 2 to update. Reboot and the firmware should be updated.

cincyrob can correct if I'm wrong on how to update the HP firmware - he has the same drive.

2 bad discs - possible - if they are bad presses that batch may have been shipped to the same store.

Give the firmware up a go.
