Hey Dudes i was wondering, there are 8 or 10 gig drives on xboxes right?i have a 10. It says i have 3.6 gigabytes of free space left on my e Drive. It says i have 485 on my C: drive ,what abot the other 6 or 7 gigabytes.Where are they?the F: drivwe?
Basically when you softmodded your Xbox you partitioned your HDD as you would, say a PC, its all there just divided up amongst A,C,E,F,G or perhaps Q drive. You can however change the available space on each drive or turn off the drives all together depending on which dashboard you are using. I know Evox will let you turn off E & F drives, not sure about what others allow.
could u tell me how to turn off all my drives but C: and E:. ive got an evox dash and xbox media center.
From the Main Evox screen goto system settings, at the system settings screen find the Misc section there you will be able to turn off the additional drives.
ok i was lookin around and it says i have 6.7 gigs of free space on my dvd drive!wtf?why, how what for?i cant save anything on my dvd drive. What Do i do now?
... Here's the thing. Yes, stock Xbox hard drives range anywhere from six to ten gigabytes. However, this is split amongst several partitions: C for the dashboard; E for saved games and soundtrack data; X, Y, and Z for cache. As I recall, the designated amounts of space are about 600 megabytes for C, four gigabytes for E, and 800 megabytes each for X, Y, and Z. Regardless of your hard drive size, this is how it'll end up. If you have a 10 gigabyte hard drive, there will be two gigabytes of unpartitioned space. There are ways to use that space, but I'm not going to get into that... There's no reason to turn partitions off. It doesn't redistribute space. If you want more space upgrade to a larger hard drive. Also, D is your DVD-ROM. It's read only, so don't expect to save anything onto it.
thanx for helpin ,do u think i could use the z,x,y folder/partions to store any programs such as xbox media center or even emulators?I have a spare 30 gigabyte hd but ive had no luck with xbox hdm so this is why im askin.also could i use these to store halo 2 maps or games or anyhting other?
No, don't store anything on X, Y, and Z. Those are used by many games to allow for shortened loading times. If you're having too much trouble with xboxhdm, just install a mod chip in your Xbox and use an autoinstaller to setup the hard drive for you.
say i did buy a modchip what kind would i need , i dont have a soldering iron and what auto installer would i use, does it run from computer or xbox?
The mod chip itself doesn't matter, as long as it's reliable. Xecuter, Xenium, and Duo chips are probably your best bet. If you don't want to spend a lot, get a basic Duo chip. If you don't know how to use a soldering iron, have someone else install it for you. The autoinstaller is burned to a DVD-R and used in the Xbox optical drive...
