I just bought a brand new Dell xps 410 system. With it came a burner bundled with Roxio Creator.

New to burning movies onto DVD-r's, I immediately went out and bought a pack of Sony's blank DVD-r's and rented Eragon.

The movies said a warning lable that reads " do not copy, disc is copyright protected.

I went ahead, not knowing better, and attempted to copy the movie onto a temporary folder, using Roxio, and then have the program just simply burn a video onto dvd'r.

So, the program copied the files, and ejected the bay, prompting me to insert a blank dvd. I did as asked.

This is where things get really weird. For 10-15 seconds, as I watched with fear and shock, the drive started whirring up to a really loud sound, like a supersonic jet engine. An idiot will know that that's not supposed to happen. I could hear the sound from outside my apartment, it was so loud. I ejected the disc quickly, and then, a piece of rubber object was resting on the blank disc, right in the center, right on top of the hole of the disc.

Please, can anybody explain to me what happened? Again, I didn't try to rip the dvd. just copy and burn kinda thing using roxio. My queston is, are there any damages to the dvd drive or computer? thanks .

was it round??? gray or sometimes white??? when you buy a new pack of dvd's they come with (don't know what they are called) little round rubber or foam things that set on top of the disc... i would try to use the drive again to see if it still reads or writes...goodluck....

theathan when you came to afterdawn and you checked the box about reading the rules and understanding them, did you forget about the rule about piracy? it would be a good idea to edit your post, we here at afterdawn don't talk about going to the video store and copying rentals, this can and will get you banned from this site, just a heads up ok, also the only dammage that could happen to your dvd drive or your computer is it could get removed from your house if you get cought, allong with the big fine and a stay in jail, good luck

thethan I was just kidding about the drive disintergrating but copying rentals is a nono but you have found the problem in that the washer looking thing always(almost) comes on a new stack of dvds. Save it for your leaky faucet or something. Good luck with your burning and keep the peanut butter out of your drive.
