I currently have a softmodded xbox. I am considering buying a chip because my DVD drive is broken and I want to run dual hard drives instead. Can someone please tell me what the cheapest sodderless chip out there is so I can disable DVD Check? If anybody knows how to disable dvd check on a softmodded xbox that would be greatly appreciated. I could not find information anywhere on how to do it.

I think there was an option in one of the xecuter2 bios's that let you write in another path for the first bootup device. Which was before...dvd by default. I don't know if this works,and I probably wouldn't advise trying it if you're not willing to mess something up. Even if it did work,pretend something went wrong...even if you borrowed a friends GOOD and working dvd drive...you still couldn't boot to a boot disk.
I need to run two, I have a 320gb hd that's filled. The price of upgrading is much more than investing in a second drive. The autoplay feature will not work because the DVD check is in the bios. As far as I know, you can not edit the bios on a softmodded box. So that's why I need a chip.

You can always mod the IDE cable to accept another device and then put a switch in there so that only one hard drive has power at a time. Then you can just reboot and switch to the other hard drive. I'm sure there's a tutorial on this somewhere...I had one written out but I dunno where I put it.
Yeah, I've seen tutorials on how to do that. But I want to be able to fit both my hard drives in my xbox and not have to switch between the two. If there's not any way to do this, then I will buy a chip because I understand they can disable the DVD drive through the bios. If I were to buy a chip, is it easier to get working since I have a softmod or harder? Or does that not matter? Thanks!
there is an aftermarket case floating around that can hold 3 hard drive internally....it adds and extra inch or so to the top and comes with the hard ware. It has three buttons/switches on the front to select what hard drive you want to boot to.....might want to google that.
I couldn't seem to find the case you are talking about. Again, I would perfer to not have to switch between hard drives and I would like to be able to keep my original casing. I just had a thought though. I have found that the xbox DVD drive only needs to have the power cable in to boot up. Could I somehow convert the DVD power cable to a standard 4-pin connector? That way I could just replace the DVD drive all together with the new hard drive.
you would still have to switch between hard drives....both hard drives will have to be formated and have a dash to run any apps.....once this is done they will fight on boot up. Only one hard drive should be powered at a time so as to give one hard drive priority. Hence the switch on the powers. You could prolly get a chip with the xtender,but I think that is an external fix. I may be wrong.
