I'm looking to get a good CPU, but I don't want to spend too much(spending up to £100/ $140 maybe more. I'll be using it for gaming/ multi tasking on vista with 4gb RAM I came across these two CPUs: AMD Phenom X4 Quad Core 9150e 1.80GHz (Socket AM2+) AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000 3.10GHz (Socket AM2) I don't know much about CPUs, so which one of these should I get? The first one is Quard Core, but it has lower GHz than the Dual. I don't know much about Quad/ Dual so, Idk... Open to any new suggestions Thanks
Neither. I'd go with this: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Inte...-FSB-1066MHz-3MB-Cache-105x-Multiplier-Retail Unless you use dual graphics, Quad cores for games aren't necessary, neither are they for multi-tasking normal apps. This CPU is a good 20-30% faster than the Athlon 6000+, at least.
Thanks sammorris that looks like a good CPU, would it be better than a AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 920 2.8GHz?
You said your budget was £100, not £172. If you have that much to spend there are other better options, such as this: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Inte...50GHz-1333MHz-4MB-Cache-75x-Core-Ratio-Retail
That looks good too Sorry for asking so many questions, but is the Q8300 better than the Phenom II x4 920? Its just that the Phenom II x4 920 has 2.8GHz and the Q8300 has 2.50GHz. (sorry if its a silly question, I don't know much about this kind of stuff)
There's a lot more to processors than just the clock speed. There have been 3.8Ghz Pentium 4s less than a tenth as powerful as either the Phenom II or the Core 2 Quad. Overall, I'd take the Q8300 over the Phenom II 920.
