Benq 1640. It's an awesome tri-format/and dual format for dual layer media.Tri-format? Does both dash and plus. Also has the bitsetting capability to turn the plus format into dvd-rom,making them more compatable in stand alone players. Lots of threads about this drive here in the dvd-rw drive forum. Also look at the q-suite utility to download for this drive: Booktyping management/q-scan/wopc-for controlled burns/and test write.A very nice utility.

I picked mine up at newegg.com for $38 including shipping.I believe they are temporarily out of stock right now.

I've got 3 benqs a burning.2- 1620s and 1 1640. Over 99% success rate and my booktyped backups play on over 95% of the stand alones that play my backups. If you get this drive,no need to worry about using the dash format.

I don't know about the selection you have over there across the pond in the UK.Maybe creaky or gurnard can direct you to a good site and get a good drive for a fair price.

    Good Luck and happy holidays!
