What ecaxtly is a video pack?

I'v noticed using vobblanker and ripit4me that sometimes thousands of "video packs" get removed. I was slightly curious about what they were then, but now converting AVI to DVD with messages like "video packet 62 dropped due to error" I'm really curious because I'm not sure if its gonna screw things up too badly. In any case it would be nice to know what it is exactly, thanks.

Each sector of a DVD is a "pack." Each pack is fronted with a "pack header."
