Hey guys im so new at this it aint even funny. My question is if i take and make all VOB files into one and then save it to disk in VOB will dvd players read and play this or not. If not what file does DVD players use to play movies. Im currently using DVD Shrink to extract these files and VOB Merge to make them one file. What is my next step? Any info you guys provide will be greatlly appretiated.

Ok hey guys i read in other post that you need to save all three file types into a folder named VIDEO_TS . After i move all these files into this folder, is this the folder that I save to cd? I am making a backup of a 30 minute cd. There is 1 VOB file and one ifo file. So if i am understanding correct I take these two files , save them in the above mentioned folder and burn that folder to disk and it should play in my dvd player correct?

Hey thanx alot for the super fast response. I have one more question as to saving it to disk. Ok for example on this cd im ripping It has two vob files two bup files and two ifo files. Do i have to merge them into one file of each or just save it in folder video_ts and burn that to disk? I mean will the dvd player be able to sort out the diff files and there order etc etc?

    Hi,
I hope you don't mind me jumping in here.
As I am a "newbie" >> probably not conceived yet would be a closer discription.

    system:
P4 3.06; 1 gig mem, Audigy2 Platinum audio, ATI All in Wonder 9700 vidio, Sony dru-510a burner.

I have burned 3 dvd's and I have not made anything remotely resembling a picture yet. (My new sideline "target practice dvd's" may be opening soon).

I wish to convert my vhs tapes into good quaulity dvd's,
I have a lot of questions please barewith:

The system came with a lot of dvd software like Pinnical/ Studio 8, Sonic/ My dvd, Ulead/ Studio 5, mediator 7, showbix, power dvd and some others I have not even looked at yet.

Are any of these a good choice?

What format /file type should I use to save media to the hd? For the time being I have been recording short tv clips off the all in wonder tuner to play with. They play fine off the hd.
When I try to burn the file to dvd that is where the trouble is. The cd's come out fine, so the drive is operating at least on that level.

Can I directly record the vhs tapes to the hd through the ATI input, without the use of an aditional capture device? It comes with a purple av/steroin cord.

Then what to use to burn with?

this should be enough to snow me for a while!
    Thanks

    hi all

    @ Pappajojo

firstly let me say very nice system you have there! i will try to go over a few things here and hopefully you will pick up on some as i have never done VHS to DVD but i know stuff for dvd!

Ok, the type of iles you should have to burn to dvd are = VOB - IFO - BUP and all should reside in a folder called VIDEO_TS you must burn the folder too !!!

Now with your ATI card i am sure there is hardware CSS copy protection? but not sure if it stops tv or video tapes? i know it stops the coping of DVD !!!!!

We on here use the program called nero or recordnow max to burn these 3 types of files to DVD-+r as these yeild the best results although yours may do it????

Aslo what file type extensions can you save to? AVI? MPEG2? if you are getting these type files then you need to reencode them with another progarm to get VOB - BUP - IFO to burn to DVD...

hope this helps abit and maybe you can throw some more light to this now and we can go from there!

    regards

Rotary - ummmm nice system you got there! ;-])

Hi - whenever I try to access ORIPHUS's guides with the address that you presented earlier in this thread, I cannot. This has happened in the past as well. I get a "this page cannot be displayed' screen.

    Any thoughts?

    thanks
