I was at college today when two kids sat next to me a got out the powerbook G4's, I dont really like Apple Mac and never will (not going to go into why otherwise ill be here all nigh) but anyway, i asked the two kids if they thought Mac was better than a PC with XP reply "PC's and Windows are shit and Bill Gates is a Prick!" MY GOD i always always always get this reply from Mac users !WHY?! it really annoys me. I dont like Mac computers, and i will never own one, but i dont sit there and just go "Macs and OSX are shit and Steve Jobs is a Prick!" (even though both Steve Jobs and Bill Gates are pricks) I know Macs are pretty good, and are faster and smoother. But i just find them so boring. What i love about my PC is that i can add sooooooo much to it and mod it to exactly what i want, with Mac i found you cant as much, because with mac its all about the lines and look pretty, i like it that my PC has no side on it case and that all the wire stick out and i have HDs sticking out here and there i like the mess but it gives it character and looks tuff and powerful, with Mac (too me) its a box everything packed in nicely all running smoothly (YAWN!) When i argue to why i dont like Macs i always try and give structured arguments, but so far at college i have 3 discussions that have then turned into fights about Macs each time the Mac user has said the same thing over and over and over,"PC's and Windows are shit and Bill Gates is a Prick!" and never given structured arguments. Do you read www.welovemacspcsarecrapandwindowsiscrap.com of course they do, i have seen many a mac forum with thread after thread nit picking at PCs and how Macs "OWN" PCs. For doing work i think Macs do win, but more and more people are wanting POWER and UBER GRAPHICS and alot more people want to capability to customize their PC (Well i know i am and alot of my friends are) for games Macs do suck. I think alot of kids my age (In the UK) want to be seen as an individual and "COOL" so many have gone with Mac computers, not realising that when they get bored of the fancy OS and want to play a game its gonna kind of suck. I dont hate Macs i just think people should seriously look around before buying one, i mean they cost like £2,299 and you can make a PC way better than a Mac that price for like £1000, I have alot more things i want to say on this, and alot more things i think PCs have over Macs, but i wont go into it unless asked. Final Thought: I dont hate Mac computers, i just find them utterly boring, i am a techy freak so love to mess around with my stuff adding bits taking bits out, blowing stuff up, having excessive amounts of neat software, having wires everywhere, adding new GPUs, just pretty much Customising my PC, something i found i couldnt do with the Mac which just sat there beeing good and doing what its told and working well. When i want my PC to mess up sometimes because i like a challenge of fixing it. And adding an over amount of stuff to my PC it kind of look like an obes rhino, cumbersome yet powerful!! I have many more thoughts like i said. BTW this is NOT a thread to start PC vs Mac war, so please dont start that, if you want to talk about Mac vs PC please give balanced arguments for both and then i final thought on which you prefer, because neither Suck. And for the love of good please no "PC's and Windows suck, and Bill Gates is a Prick!" if i hear that once more i'll scream
i personally like windows and pcs better than mac. but mac does have its strong suits. mac is usually better than pcs for graphics and photo-editing based apps (at least in my experiance).
Djscoop would want me to tell you this: Even though they make nice "eyecandy" thats all they are, (Even with an intel based processor) http://kevan.org/johari?name=Jizmak
Haha I KNEW Jizmak was going to get in on this... ^_^ Nick, I'm in the same boat as you. This is my first year of college and all those rich buggers are toteing their powerbooks and iPods, proclaming the universal power of Macs over PCs. Yet it took me a while to find one who would engage in an intelligent discussion over the differences between the two. Bottom line, I think it depends on who you find. I've never had issues with PC's or had a reason or desire to switch to Macs (Actually, that's a lie. Once I saw widgets on Tiger, I kind of wanted to switch, but they got old after about a day). Haha, for the record, most people I've talked to go for the "Macs crash less than PC's" argument. They're thuroughly baffled when I tell them my fully modded PC with XP Home hasn't crashed in 6 months. Meanwhile, they struggle with convoluded controls and a general lack of cool games.
@dvdsndict, Yeah i have heard the Macs crash less than PC's argument many a time aswell. My PC hasnt crashed since god knows when, i dont know if it even has, the only time it has sort of crashed was when i turned of all my internet security and started downloading stuff of a website, which messed everything up and i got about 5 trojan horses and had to re-format. I think a PC's crashing give it something though in my own weird way, its like the PC will be in a real mood one day and just not want to co-operate and then the next day its all happy and running fine, where Macs remind me of that red head one from desperate housewive, just getting on with thing running nicely doing as its told and ignoring anything that goes wrong. And yeah i agree anything difficult arises for most Mac users my age (17) and they are completely dumb founded, and alot of them here at my college think they know alot about computers.
sry nickit have to point it out "i dont hate macs" hehe yet look at ur sig? oil well i do hate em they make me feel poor and messy
lol, i changed my sig only a couple of days ago. I DO HATE macs now, after having another "Discussion" with someone from college about them, i now truely hate them.
