   mpeg or avi? i know mpegs will play on my dvd as well as pc, but is there any other diferance?

   It's my understanding that avi files are much larger than mpeg. You'd be better off sticking with them. I capture mpeg2's all the time and can fit 2 hours of good resolution on one dvd.
