It is a tpe of codec used to compress movies and video files to a small size while not losing too much quality.

True, it is an MPEG-4 Part 2 video codec. It is also am A/V container, hacked/based on avi.

Download the "K Lite Codec Pack" or Media Player Classic.

    Problem solved ;)

DivX is a type of encoding codec used on movies, typically on ones illegally downloaded :)

DivX makes the movie size smaller with keeping quality good

You do not need DivX player (divx.com) to play DivX movies, just get VLC player

Actually just about all the downloads use XviD since scene rules don't allow for DivX.

I have a DivX compatible DVD player. I burned a DivX file (.avi)to a CD as 'data' and the player will not play back the sound although picture is fime. The file works fine on my pc with windows media player. Should I burn it differently? Obviously I dont want to encode it as my player should be fine with DivX.
    Thanks for any advice

It seems that my Denon 1920 doesn't decode AC3!!! How crap is that. My DivX file must be in AC3 although cant see where it tells me
