I know the VRam helps with the frame buffer and is very useful for high resolution. Assuming I get a 23.6- 24" monitor, would it be wise to get a 1gb edition or a 2gb edition, assuming that I keep res at 1900x1200. Will the 2gb improve fps by alittle bit or significantly on games such as Far Cry 2, Crysis, and GTA. I know it will help on GTA, but don't know if it is overkill for my 24" monitor. I'm pretty sam is going to jump in and recommend the 4870x2 :3 but I just wanted to know the difference .
I am, because the HD4870X2 is actually cheaper than the 1GB GTX285, let alone the 2GB. You will only really see the gain of 2GB at 2560x1600. For a 24" monitor 1GB is enough. Seriously though, if you're a die hard nvidia fan, buy a GTX275, they're so much cheaper, and not that much slower.
The only time you need it is if you're using two of them at 2560x1600 with high levels of AA (very high), or if you want to max GTA4...
