I have 1 gig of ram and my pc runs at 300mb ram when its standing still, I cannot Identify the problem through task manager and have run several malware programs ( I foud a few generic trojans) they were removed no problem and the problem persists.

Any help would be appreciated and I am sorry If I have posted in the wrong forum or If it has already been discussed

thanks for all of your wonderful help 56delray

I bet all you do is look for reason to report people and get off on it in a sick way

would have been nice if you said hey man u need to go about it this way, but no, your a child

I bet you never thought that my problem was an immediate issue that needs attention promptly as now my ram is lower, what a humanitarian you are

300 mb of idle usage doesn't sound too crazy, to be honest. i'm using 579 mb with firefox being my only active program.

What you found is normal. Windows Xp uses up all of your RAM for its own purposes, dll cacheing, etc. It releases it when it is needed.
