i dunno what to tell you as far as specific hardware ...but i can tell you among the most important things to look for are fast processor (64 bit if possible since its only a matter of time before more software is released in 64bit format and youll get a definate boost then), fast memory (i dun member so double check but i think ddr is the fastest genre and crucial is a popular maker of quality memory), fast hdd (7200rpm is pretty damn important at least 100gb ...but as big as you can afford asically ...when blueray gets here ull regret savin money on the hd space), other than that there are hardware encoders ...which are rediculously faster than software, and youll want good dvd burner ...for both quality and shelf life (nec, lite-on, lg are some of the generally good ones), on that same note quality dvds (i like ridata ...but to each his own), and if you get printable dvds youll want a printer that can print on em, dunno how it compares but i have a epson stylus

...cant help with the motherboard ...proly get one that supports more than one processor cause with our current technology we cant go much smaller thamm 32mm (or is it nm?)
besides hardware make sure you always have the lastest drivers ...they may not help but never hurt ...and if your hard core about this (which if your buying hardware specifically for video editing sounds like you are) then things like a cooling system will maintain top performance and increase the life of the computer
