i want to buy a dvd burner, but i dunno how to buy.. someone out there please guide me.. thanks in advanced
A new burner should be 16x for dvd+-r's and 4x for DL. Just make sure it can booktype the DL's to dvd-rom if your planning to use them.
Remeber you only want to be burning DVD's at 4x or 8x with best media and 2.4x for DL's! Look at the Pioneer 111 (great drive),NEC's or Lite On's.
Good to mention that Ripper. I only mentioned the speeds because that will ensure he gets a newer model. There cheap anyways.
Good drives to consider, [bold]Pioneer 111D -[/bold] http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827129002 [bold]NEC 3550A -[/bold] http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827152056
I am still know nothing about DVD...i don't even know what is DVD+R/-Ror +RW/-RW.. however, i want to change from cd to dvd which could hold up more..can explain to me? thanks...
What do you mean by which could hold up more? Dvd-r's are more universally read by more standalone's but dvd+r's can be booktyped to dvd-rom which can be read on anything. That makes +r a good bet. But these days almost all standalone dvd players read both and all dvd burners do both as well so I wouldnt worry about the disk type. If you are new to the dvd thing just make sure to use good media ty's or verb's ect. and don't put a label on them. Otherwise you could make a bunch of good copies that only last a couple of months.
Yes, CDs are 700 MB. A Single layer DVD+R or DVD-R can hold about 4.37GB. A dual Layer DVD+R DL or DVD-R DL can hold about 7.92GB. DVD+RW and DVD-RW are rewritable. Only use that for data because they are not too compatible with DVD Players for movies. When deciding between DVD+R or DVD-R, ignore the + and -. Only look at where the discs are made. Buy the ones made in Japan first. If none are Japan, buy Made in Singapore. If none are from Singapore, buy Verbatim. For DVD Burners, the ones recommended are excellent.
The "+" and "-" are the different formats of disk. They aren't really relevant, as they don't make much difference...however, they are different.
>>>> Remeber you only want to be burning DVD's at 4x or 8x with best media and 2.4x for DL's! You can burn 16X discs at their rated speeds with the right media and burner. Some great reviews with media tests burned at their correct speeds can be found here: http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/search/B/
I own a NEC3550A and it has been very good to me. I have only had it for nine months and I liked enough to buy my Brother in Law one and He has had very good expirences too. The only coaster I have had was a bad disc. You can find great prices on it now. Good Luck...
If you don't mind spending a little more money, I recommend getting a Plextor drive. Take a look at the PX-760a, it's all you'll ever need. http://www.plextor.com/english/products/760A.htm
A very nice drive. I didn't realise Plextor were stil making drives. LoL Plextor are deffinately up there with the top makes such as BenQ.
