    Hey

How old is this comptuer ?

When the computer starts up, after it does the POST, before the Windows 98 Splash Screen, keep pressing F8, till a menu comes up, select 'Safe Mode' and see if it will boot into safe mode.

It could just be a program installed recently that has buggered one of the start-up config files.

    Regards

it is still under warranty it sometimes bootes so its not any program but when ot majorly bodges up u wait awhile(could be 10min could be 1 hour) and it works again thats why i think its the cpu.

It could still be a program causing this, sometimes it loads, sometimes it doesnt.

Turn the comptuer on, and leave on for a few hours and just play around with it, if it lasts that long, its not the CPU, as still being under warranty to me means that its a new P4 machine, which usually have heat sensors, so if the CPU overheats, it will Beep and shutdown till it cools down.

In most cases this seems to be how things turn out :)

Hell I think everything since the P2's had a thermal sensor! :)

EYEShurt: might a reformat do the trick? (if not just to eliminate the possibility that it's software) and yeah, we need some specs
