What's Unlocking a Phone??

    This is probably a very dumb question for most of you, but I don't know the purpose of unlocking a phone. Could someone enlighten me.

    lol me toooooooo :D iz dat wen ur phones blockd or sumert :D ermm or does unlockin mean dat so u can use can any networkz sim in ya mobile? ermm or iz dat dual band? so yea talking baut that. does any1 knw... hw can i mke ma nokia n70 dual band?

    Phone unlocking just enables your phone to be used on any network. New phones these days are usually 'locked' to the network you buy them on (ie. o2), so as to prevent you from changing networks. But you can get them 'unlocked' so you may use them freely on any network. It's all completely legal.
