Ok, I hope I'm in the good forum for this question because my thread is pretty huge. I'm experiencing certain problems with my encoding: no sound while encoding certain files with TMPGenc, incomprehensible errors with Panasonic MPEG1 Encoder 2.51, codec fuckups, etc. I'm a newbie and many parts of this complicated language are very odd to me. I would like to know if what I have on my PC is ok. Do I need something else ? should I delete some components that can generate conflicts ? I'd like to be more efficient and have a better participation on this forum, so here's my stuff: Windows 98, 512 RAM, 80 Go, AMD Athlon 1.3, soundblaster Audigy, ATI Rage 128 Video Software: LSX-MPEG Encoder 3.5, TMPGEnc-2.51, Panasonic MPEG1 Encoder 2.51, GSpot, VirtualDub,Ulead Media Studio Pro 6.0,SmartRipper, Flask mpeg, (that's about it for video) Audio software: SoundForge 6.0, WaveLab Lite Codecs installed (add/remove window): AC3 filter, ACE Mega Codecs ProXP, DivX codec 3d release, Intel A/V Codec V2.0 Video Codecs (multimedia window): ATI VCR 1 Format Codec, ATI VCR 2 Format Codec, ATI YV12 Panar Format Codec, Cinepack Codec, Divx MPEG-4 (fast and slow-motion), Duck TrueMotion Codec, dvc [dvsd], DVIDEO [DRAW], Intel 1.263 Codec and videi driver, Intel Indeo 3.2 / 3.1 / video 5.11 / 4.5 [LV4L][YVU9], Microsoft H.261 / H.263 / RLE / UYVY / Video 1 / YUV2/ YVYU / VDOnet VDOWave, Vivo H.263 version 2.00 Audio Codecs (multimedia window): Learnout & Hauspie, Indeo Audio SOftware, Windows Media Audio, Spiro Lab Telecom ACELP.net, VoxWare, Faunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 (professional), Creative MP/, Convertisseur PCM Microsoft, Intel G.723.1, and 6 codecs with blank names (???) I don't know if I wrote that for nothing, but I did it anyway. ... can someone help me ?
ChrisTav, wOw, lotta info there! Couple things I noticed: You should get a more recent OS like Win 2000 or XP (preferably XP). 512Mb RAM is enough, you didn't specify if your hard drive is 7200RPM or 5400RPM. It should be 7200. Your processor could be faster but will get the job done, eventually... Soundcard is excellent. ATI Rage?? Isn't that a little old? I use nVidia so I'm not sure, but I thought ATI's latest graphics engine was the "Radeon." As far as your codecs, it looks like you got a few non-standard ones in there. You should be careful experimenting with codecs, it's one of the surest ways to cause a need to re-install your OS. But only if you don't like watching all your videos upside down or in green techno color.. ;-) All you really need is the codecs you are using to encode with, i.e.: DivX 5.0.3 or XviD, and LAME Mp3 and/or Fraunhoffer IIS Mp3. As far as your programs, GSpot, VirtualDub, and SmartRipper are keepers. I'm not too familiar with the other ones so if they are useful for you then keep 'em. If not, just don't install them next time. Alot of it is "learn by trial and error" so just keep trying things until you find something that works. Have fun.
Thank you for the advices, Popweasel. In fact, IT Is an ATI Radeon... I made an error here. So, my stuff is not too bad, I'll try to get the best out of it. Now, let's start working !
