I've gotten a couple of messages from people asking which Dashboard is best to use. I honestly don't know. I know I was first introduced to Avalaunch and EvolutionX but I've grown to favor the work of TeamAvalaunch. Maybe i've picked it because I'm familiar with it and quite comfortable not learning something new. I dunno but I like it and I use it. May be that I'm missing out on something but not using other dashboards. I wanna know the Afterdawn family thinks. [bold]WHAT'S THE BEST DASHBOARD TO USE ON THE XBOX & WHY[/bold]
As of right now I prefer UnleashX, it's almost the same as Avalaunch but I like the interface and features of UnleashX better. But as soon as UIX releases their new dash, I'm making the switch.
Of all the dashboards, that's the one I know the least about. I read that it was included with one of the game save hacks (exploits) and that that version released was gonna allow softmodders to include M$ Dash as an option. I don't mess with softmodding, just saw it on a website before.
This is what the default skin looks like, but there are many more that you can choose. It's similar to the MicroSoft dash and the orb in the middle moves back and forth.
I've always been a big Avalaunch Fanboy. ... Oh Hell I still am! Granted it's not the slickest Dash of 'em all. But I spend like what on average Ninty Seconds to scroll down the Thirty or Games I have on my 120Gb HDD. If I do decide to let the thing roll I might let Ava sit for about Five Minutes (or so), and let a few APOD's ((A)stornomy (P)icture (O)f the (D)ay), scroll though. Since Amature Astronomy is still some what of an intrest of mine. And then there's Quix! Ah yes Quix!! <3 <3 <3 (<-Hearts),. Quix and Avalauch go together like Chocolate and Peanutbutter! YUMM! And untill I find something that can do a better job of makeing Transfers then Quix! (Unlikely given the XBOX's™ currrent E-O-L status!) , I'm just going to continue to use Ava. If I were prone to jump ship at this point? I'd probably run over the XBMC side. In fact I'm only starting to give this a thought as I've been having problems with Ava lately (i.e. Crashing), It would appear that on those occasions that I'm not on the iNet, but am at the PC in attempting to gain FTP access (xfering DOAX: Textures and or BGM Files), the whole thing would go down somewhere beteen Three Seconds or Five Munits! >=( At first I thoght I was suffering overheating problems. But having a suspision that Ava was timeing out trying to get on the iNet. Seemed to pan out. As Ava is rock stable when it's just sitting there and not atttempting to get on the iNet. + The fact that no ones heard anything from Team Avalaunch for almost a Year now. It's to be assumed that development on this Project has stoped. =(
@Achilles3 Oh yeah, I know that Dash!!! That's the softmodders world right there. Nah, haven't really done too much with that. Modded a few boxes for my cousins (softmod) and that was about it. Just never messed with the features at all.
@Ichijoe I'm wit' you. Avalaunch just does it for me. I really do wanna give other dashboards a chance but it's feel like cheating.
@uniique1 I don't know about cheating per-say. But, If XBMC could utilize the Avalaunch FTP Structure (i.e. 'Boost') and be compatible with Quix! I'd probably would use XBMC! FWIW: I do beleave that XBMC has the cleanest and simpelist interface of 'em all. as for UIX? I don't know about it. I was never turned on to M$Dash Hacks beit back in 2003 or Today...
I don't advise you to use XBMC as a primary dash because it is updated constantly, and if you mess up.. well then you're screwed.
Actualy I have no problems updateing XBMC, simply because it's so reguarly updated. In an effort of trying to rininstall Avalaunch, it kept crashing on me. I lost the links to XBMC and to the M$Dash (for DVD Playback), well I was able to fix the latter. I had a hard time figuring out how to relink XBMC into Ava's Main Menu. The trick to useing XBMC is to find a nice distro that has built-on support for the KML2.0 (Shoutcast), and Kai support.
True but if that's the case I could say the same for EvoX & UnleashX. I wish I had the skills to write my own dashboard or even edit and existing one to be exactly what I want.
All to true!!! And so I continue to use Avalauch. It really is for the most part the best Dash. Granted XBMC is slicker. And some will be tuned on to those 3D M$Dash Hacks, UIX? But, So long as I can keep the current build of Ava .49.3 stable. I have no problems with it. But, I can not help to wonder how much longer these 'Projects' will continue with the emminit death of the current XBOX™ Generation. After all we only have Ninty-Two (08.12.2005), more Days to go to the XBOX360™.... (i.e. 11.12.2005)
It won't die. People love customization for one. Whether the XBOX360 becomes a victim of modchips or not I don't think the current progess on this XBOX will go sour. If that were to become true I think that sales would have stopped a while ago. For example, as soon as the XBOX360 was unveiled mod chip sales would have stopped in the great anticipation of the new XBOX. People know it's coming and yet they continue to by chips and after it's here they will continue to buy them. I do think that it won't be as popular (current mods) but that's just my opinion. One of my favorite things about the current mods are the Emulators and ROMS. I never kept my old systems so now my little boy will be able to see what his dad played and of course he'll experience the new generation as well.
