Hi All, Problem: Friends went on honeymoon & took loads of vids & pictures & saved them to their Seagate Barrucuda 7200.10 - USB external drive. Drive went kaput & was handed to me to try fix. Actions so far: 1. Tried USB on a number of different PC's & laptops - no joy. 2. Took drive out of it's shell & found a SATA PC to see if I could boot or see as an additional drive - no joy. 3. Installed drive to hot swappable machine (can't remember the name - only had access as "a favour" for a few minutes. Discovered that drive is spinning but controller appers not to be working. Requirement: Need a controller for a 500 Gb (I'm sure memory size is irrelevant) Seagate Barrucuda 7200.10 SATA drive. Can anyone help me find where I can just get the controller??? Thanks in advance.
You can't buy just the controller. You probably can buy an empty USB enclosure and if the drive is functional, you should be able to access the drive. #3 is not conclusive, but if the controller board is bad you CANNOT buy it seperately. the only chance that you have is to buy THE EXACT SAME MODEL of drive and swap the controller board. I have done this before and there is a 90% chance it will work.
Yeah cheers for the quick reply. Looks like I'll just have to buy the drive & swap over the controller board alright... Thanks. 90% is pretty good.
