what size power connector does it have, is it the same asthat plugs into your hd or rom drive or is it a small 3 pin connector with either 3 wires or 2 wires on it

Is it the larger 4 pin or the smaller 3 pin connector show in the above picture?

If it is the smaller 3 pin, then it should be connected to your Motherboard if there is an additional 3 pin male connector on it and not in use. You can also get an adapter to change from a 3 pin to a larger 4 pin if need be, and the larger 4 pin connector should be connected to an available matching 4 pin coming from your Power supply.

actually its an ancient fan i took from a powersupply for my 1995 pentium :p It only has the two pin connector like one of the connector from the pic (the smaller one). And I actually looked it up externally to an extra 9 volt ac adapter I had lying around (did some wire snipping and taping. Now it works pretty well, I have it sitting at the bottem of the case blowing directly onto my graphics card and sound card. Thanks for the help guys.

the 2 wires are red & black. the red is 12volts & the black is ground. on your psu the yellow wire is 12volts & the black is ground

the 2pin connector fan is for a psu when it's fan gives up the ghost & plugs into the connector of the psu board if male connector is attached. can do if carefull is to splice into the 12v yellow & ground black wires from an extra 5.25" power connector or from an extra 3.5" power connector.

How about purchasing a new fan for under $10 that will connect to a free lead from your PSU?

Ghetto rig it. Take off the plastic that covers the 2 wires. The wires are attached to metal. Put black to black plugged into a CD/HDD power connector. You can put the red in the red(5v) for slow quiet use or the yellow(12v) for faster. It should fit pretty snug and not pop out. Just don't let them touch the bottom of the case, might short and arc and sparks and all the fun stuff..

If you need to cool your computer, why wait with a jury rig of an outdated fan when you can purchase a new fan for under $10 that will connect to a free lead from your PSU? We are not talking major bucks here, something under the $10 US mark is all one needs. End of story, problem fixed, better then before, etc. etc. :)
