Hi all, I am thinking of going to the states at the end of year to work for a few months and was wondering where i should go? Obviously i can only live in one city at a time, so where should it be? If ur American, where would u live if you had the choice? Thanks for ur input.
I'm born and raised in Los Angeles (San Fernando Valley) and I love it here, wouldn't want to live anywhere else (in the US, that is).
I was born and raised in eastern NC. I am still here because I love it here. A lot of military people retire here, because they love the weather and scenery. We have beaches and mountains in the state. I think my second choice would be Texas...................
if you're willing to spend a lot of money and have a lot of fun meeting diverse people then go to NYC. New York City, only the city, not anywhere in the state. if you want lots of restaurants, moderately slow life, and ehh, lots of "caucasian" people then go to columbus, ohio. this is really stupid, my aunt freaks out everytime she visits (columbus), she lives in new jersey and she's always so excited when we shopping, a tide bottle in nj is $12 and in columbus its $5. LMAO!! oh yeah, just incase Tide is laundry detergent.
Hmm, yes LA has been on the list. I hear you can get affordable housing in a place called Compton? Sounds good. I wanna get to Vegas so LA would be good for that. NY city sounds good too, but seems like it woiuld be expensive. Was thinking maybe Florida also? Theres just so many places. States seems so big and varied.
LOL I hope you were joking. You can easily get a one bedroom apartment in Compton for about $350 a month, the only problem is that you have like a 1 and 20 chance of getting shot! Okay, its not that drastic. But Compton is considered the "ghetto" part of LA, so you don't want to live there. Hollywood would be your best bet. Its pretty much in the middle, and is close to everything...downtown LA, Beverly Hills/Bel Air, the Valley, Santa Monica, etc. @Kinza: I've always wanted to visit NYC, but have never been. Closest I got was driving down to Buffalo when I was visiting a friend in Canada. Where in NYC are ya from?
Since most gangs want me to join cause im awesome with a bow stick, i figured it would be a good place to start. But Holywood sounds much better. Wouldnt it be really expensive tho, to live in Hollywood, since, its Hollywood? I would probably move into share accommodation, as its a good way to meet people and saves on the bills. Am thinking of enetering one of those green card lotteries, will cost 50 bucks but have a chance for a green card. Dunno, could be a scam. I hardly think its a lottery, as they will not let just anyone move to the states willy nilly. Anyway, LA is winning the race at the moment.
djscoop u haven't seen any of the life of the big apple if you brushed buffalo. i lived in queens, you know one of the five boroughs. i wouldn't have lived anywhere else, bronx and brooklyn are a little high on crime, and just not my thing, although i do love the yankees. long island is also a good place, probably the most affordable but not always the best option for the commuter. manhattan is enjoyable but i wouldnt live there. it is soooo expensive. back in sixth grade my teacher said that her daghter sold her apartment in manhattan and a year later there was a 600% price increase. new york is a great place, unlike ohio here. forgot to mention, even if the living expenses are so high you get equally as much salary. i know a guy that moved to nyc because he got a job there and the income was huge but he didn't realize how high living costs would be, now he's just in the middle of comfortable living.
Im an Australian but am living in Auckland at the moment (New Zealand for the geographically challenged lol). I work in IT sales so would go for a similar role i guess.
Yea i would hope so. We joined the "Coalition of the willing...' so you'd expect somethin in return *cough cough. Im not sure how long a work visa can last in the states tho, need to look into it.
i think its two years, but definately dont count on that. i know some people that got a work visa from canada and when they went to renew it they would not let the husband reenter the usa. the wife had to gather up all the furniture with her two handicapped children and move to canada. was very sad, they were my well-known neighbors, i can even call them my relatives. *sobs*
I believe a great place to live and visit would be Texas. I have been living here for about 22 years and live near Houston. There are also other big city's like Dallas and San Antiono. The only bad thing about Houston and it really sucks is Traffic and the weather. Its really Humid and Hot which really sucks. Other then that Texas would be a great place to visit.
I did a lot of construction work when I was younger, so I have lived in 9 different states (and 2 foreign countries), and been to 49 out of 50 states, still haven't seen Alaska. Of all of the places I have lived, I liked Raleigh, NC the best, Denver, CO would be a close second. Raleigh was close to the beach and mountains, had a nice multicultural population, and was just about the right size. It was about 350k people when I lived there so not too small, but not too big either. I had to leave there after the tech fallout in 2001 when I got laid off, and I still miss it. My least favorite place that I have lived would have to be Texas. The things I enjoy doing, camping, hiking, going to the beach and mountains just don't appeal to me there. The mountains in West Texas are hundreds of miles away and are mostly barren rock. The last time I went to the beach was to S. Padre Island, took a few steps out of the car and had tar on my feet from the off shore oil drilling. There is not much land set aside for public use, so camping and hiking are not as accessible as many other states. I think Texas let the ranchers buy up all the land and didn't set aside enough for parks and public use before all of the land was in private hands. I have lived in Houston, Victoria, and Rockport, TX Boca Raton, FL New Orleans, LA Norfolk and Richmond, VA Charleston, WV Raleigh, NC Nashville, TN Denver, CO Middletown, DE Those are just the places I actually had a residence. I was a gypsy when I did construction work, going from job to job when the work was finished. I lived in many others states out of motels or even out of a camper at times for short durations. Anyway, I think I got to see a good part of the US to base my decision on where I like best.
Born in SC and have lived in the Raleigh NC area for the last 23 years. Raleigh is about half way from the beaches and halfway from the mountains about 3 hours either way. The weather is great and ideal for being outside. Also Raleigh is known for technology and has been called a mini Silicon Valley and Unc, Duke and NC State are all within 20 miles of each other providing a wonderful environment for sports fans. I absolutely love it here and I believe you will too.
Yea i've heard that north carolina is a good place. isnt that where Britney spears is from? if so, they must breed the ladies properly over there so thats a big incentive lol. it seems hard to get a work visa tho. seems u need to be there fr a specific job and u must be sponsored by ur employer. fair enuf, but it can take up to eight months 4 sponsorship to be approved! so what are ya supposed to do in the mean time? without getting deported that is. will have to do more research on the matter. thanks for all ur input, this is really good. always wanted to get to new orleans too. i hear mardi gras is the place to be.
I live in Fontana California, right off the I-15, and i love it, wouldent want to move else where, maybe, maybe oregon, specifically agness oregon, my grandparents live there, and its really nice up there, small town, no smog, great people, beautiful seniry(spelling).
No if I were you I would either go with LA or San Diego in California. I was vacationing there a while ago(I live in Philadelphia) and it was a really nice place. Take it from a tourist-you'd want to live there.
