    Hay,
When i boot my 1.0 xbox it tries to connect to xbox live.I was wondering if this is the bios i used when i was softmodding my xbox that causes this. The installed dashboard was removed and i used the mechassault gamesave exploit to mod it. Because of this it wont play games or disks so i need to sort this out.

P.S: If it is the bios is there any way to flash my mother board with the default bios using a SP.ice chip could you pease tell me.

    Thanks

So tell us again did you short out your 'D0' (D-Zero), Points and disable the Write Protect on the Mainbard of your XBOX™?? If so and you decided to flash your XBOX™ with some other Firmware Image. Then I would have hoped that you would have made a backup of your EEPROM.bin File. Because if not... You can Chuck out your Stock HDD well!

Yes from the sound of it you will need to get chiped. the bad news I don't think you will be using Live!™ on that XBOX™ again, at least not for very long! If you did fux0r your TSOP up then that's that.

As for the HDD? well it requrers the info that's embedded in the 'TSOP' (i.e. BIOS e.g. Firmware) to unlock your HDD so that it can be used. IF you ever do get chiped and tried to boot your XBOX™ up. You will land on the Error Screen with an 'Error 06' "Can not unlock HDD".
because your HDD-Key no longr exsists! So the answer to the problem is to get a bigger HDD (well hopefully bigger then the 10Gb that M$ gave you in the first place!),.

By useing something like Slayers2.x Final or Auto Installer Pro. you can then reformat your new HDD and eventualy relock it allthough without a valid EEPROM I don't know if that's even possible. As there are at least Five different sub-keys that will makeup a HDD Lock Key.
    of which are:

The Serial Number of the XBOX™
The MAC Adress For your XBOX™
    Your On-Line Key (for Live!™ I guess)
Your Unique HDD-Key (16-bit Key do not confuse with the HDD Lock Key)
The Serial Number of your HDD

Which will eventualy give you a 20-bit HDD-Unlock-Key. The only good thing that could have happend to you at this point is if you have used 'ConfigMagic' before to unlock and then relock your HDD. Then you can try the Master Pasword 'TEAMASSEMBLY' to unlock your HDD on the PC I don't know if you can do it though a autobooting CD\DVD on the XBOX though. But, I think it could be possible. Allthough I never had couse to find out.

Needless to say A HDD without it's Unlock Key is about a usefull as a dead one. So in the end you're probably going to have to let it go....

I didnt short my d0 point. Im taking that for granted because i havnt gone near it and , to be honest, i dont want or need to relock the drive.

Thats okay i dont want live. This is an offline only job. I have a SP.ice chip and ordered a slayers cd 2 days ago. Will any ATA/133 drive work or is the xbox HD a different type.

I was wondering if there is some way to flash my xbox before i put the chip in since the xenium os keeps the origional bios on the MB.

PS: I hear the spice has some sort of built in ftp browser (im new to the chip). Is this true. If it is what sort of cable does it use (crossover or norm RJ45) and could it be used to salvage the contents of my HD

    Thanks for your help,

Well if you didn't mess with the 'D0' Points and you have not shorted out the Write Protect for the TSOP. Then how did you manage to corrupt your Firmware? If you are useing some kind of BFM (Boot From Media) Image. You should still be able to launch games off the DVD-ROM Drive (beit that they are infact the originals for the Region the XBOX™ was sold in),. You just need to inset your Disc, close the tray and then cycle the power, in order to boot a Game Disc. If this is a 'Softmod' just use the Disc that you commited the 'Mod' with and rework you way back into EvoX.

As for the eventual replacement (should you not be able to use your HDD), Any 40-PIN ATA133 Dive that supports beeing Locked will work just fine. There is only One exception the Dive has to be at least 8Gb's in order for it to be used in a XBOX™. The Speed / Heat factor is also something to consider. I'd personaly recomed you try finding the largest 5400RPM Drive, as a 7200RPM Drive could burnout inside the rather tight innerds of your XBOX™

I would advise anyone to NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! to flash there TSOP. Thats plain insanity! If not for the reasions I stated in my first posting.

I don't know much about other Modchips other than the X-B.i.t. But, yes I gather that the newer (LCD supporting), Modchips have some form of 'ChipOS' that's independent of the XBOX™. So yes you should be able to gain FTP Access with out having a FTP supporting Dashboard (e.g. EvoX, Avalaunch or XBMC installed),.

As to how you want to eventually connect it is up to you. If you have a Router or Internet Switch you could just configure that up and use a normal CAT-5 Cable. If you wanted to try something cheaper you could use a NIC2NIC (or NIC2XBOX™), connection which then would require you to use a Crossover Cable. And setup you PC for Internet Connection Shareing. For more info on this I offer you this link: www.google.com

BTW: You do know that you could have downloaded Slayers for free off Bittorrent right? (aprox. 90Min with a 1Mb ADSL),. Usualy People have to buy that kind of stuff if they can not afford a broadband connection.

    Thanks but,
I cant play games for some reason. When i turn on my xbox i think the bios is bypassing the dvd drive and straight away trying to load the dashboard through my xbox live section of the default dashboard.

Thanks also for the google link LOL and i still have dial up so downloading would be a pain.

ooohh. Not good!! Dail-up. Dail-up should be outlawed! :)

Well that would explain having to buy a Slyers CD\RW then. Lord knows what a 690Mb CD would cost you if you live in Europe. Where you have to pay like ¢0.001(EUR), per Minute. I still cringe at the thoughts of my what my Phone bill was like back in the Good 'ol D-Mark Days! All I can say is thank goodness for Flatrate allways on ADSL for €14.95(EUR) a Month!

Once the Dashboard loads (XBL!™ or other), can you do anything like pressing 'B' to cancel? I'm not there to see what's going on but it sounds like the Dashborard might be trying to update itself and given you do not have a Broadband Connection (ADSL or Cable), you can not go Live!™ and maybe if you leave it for a Minite or Two it will (should), timeout. Then hopefuly drop you back into the Dashboard again.

    Thanks for the sympathy :),

I wouldnt mind if it was 0.001 euro. Its actually 1.2 cent a min off peak.

It times out after about 30 seconds and says 'Could not connect to Xbox Live'. But pressing ok just causes it to loop. I have some more info which i think proves its a bios error.

When i put a disk in it waits for the disk to load before the code is called causing it to try to connect to xbox live. It could very well be a dashoard error actually.

Do you think the prob will rectify itself once i put the chip in and get a new HD? I think in theory it should replace any software or BIOS error i have, should it?

    Thanks for all your help,

Well if it is a only a Dashboard error (as it appears to be), a properly configured Modchip. Especially One lie you are getting with a built in FTP will be a lifesaver for you I Think. you can install a different Dashboard (In the case of Slayers it'll most likely be EvoX), An outdated if not very user friendly Dashboard. You will have the option to reforat your XBOX™ HDD. And reset partitions. It'll be intersting to see if your v1.0 has the WD HDD instaed of the more commen 10Gib Seagate. What's os interestng about that? About 12Gib's that's what! Evenstill a bigger HDD is a MUST!

But I was thinking instaed of doing a complete Reforamt of the HDD. Do you have any Live!™ enabled Games like the original Spliter Cell? if so you could (once you safely have EovX installed!), deleate you old 'XBOXDash.xbe' and then using the Filemanger that comes with Slayers 'BoxPlorer' you could insert said Game into the Drive. Point 'BoxPlorer' to D: (just like on most PC's) to the DVD-ROM Drive. and locate and execute the File called 'DashUpdate.xbe' to reinstall the 'XBOX Dash' again and then that should hopefully clear up any problems you might be having.

Given that this is a XBOX™ v1.0 moding it shouldn't be a problem like say a v1.6a or b Model. If you got the Soderless adapter you should have it done in under an Hour. If you ever swaped out a tired old HDD or replaced a CD-ROM Drive with a DVD Burner, or replaced a Video / Sound Card you should feel right at Home inside the XBOX™.

YOu might want to go to the Hardware Shop though and pick up a TORX-10 and TORX-15 Screwdriver(s) thouhg. I was lucky to have a Flathead that was just the right size for the Screws but if your unluck you could easaly strip the Heads by useing a Flathead.

Thanks a million for your help 8),

I dont really want the ms dash to be honest since you cant lauch xpps such as XBMC from it directly. I allready have all the screwdrivers and stuff (I got one from maplyn which is cheap and good enough for the job)

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=43301&doy=28m8

Just if your interested. I know about the chip install though (first time solderless, thought i give it a chance) and will of course get a drive. Im a bit nervous about the solder in the ports but i can just desolder if it doesnt work. I hate soldering.

For your info the current drive is the segate :( .

Thanks for all your help. Going to wait for a good offer on a drive since there is a new store opening nearby and want to scope it out.

Thanks for all your help and advice,

As far as Solder on the LPC Port I wouldn't worry unduely over it. Some People have said they had an easyer time with the ports that way. The bitch is makeing sure you ground out the 'D0' Point. That where I had to wiggle the Chip slightly myself.

BTW: If you'd like I have a cupple of Firmwares I could send you. If you'd like just drop me a PM and I'll be glad to send 'em to you.

    The Firmwares in question are:

Xecuter2 4980.67 and Evox D6. Granted there not the newest X3 Firmwares but, they do work and you should have no problems with then on a v1.0 XBOX™...

    Sorry it took so long,
Just for the record. It was a software prob. Booted up evoX and slayers and just reformatted C. Worked perfectly!

Thanks a million for your help bringing my xbox from the dead,
Thanks also for the offer of the firmwares.
