    Hi people,

I would like to ask for your opinions on what cable receiver to buy.

I used to own a Starview "The Box" receiver had many good years with it then sold it as I got a bit bored with it.

I would like to buy a new receiver box now and as there are quite a few to choose from I would like to ask for people's opinions.

I live in the Midlands, UK which is served by virgin media.

I would like a lost cost box that is good for the job of receiving all them channels.

I haven't got a TV so what I would like to do is stream the signal to my laptop. I believe on some boxes you can plug it in to your router and access it over a wireless network, ie Dreambox.

I hear that soon all boxes will stop working due to the new encryption measures slowly rolling out.

I would prefer a box that is the most reliable.

    Any help much appreciated.

once N3 rolls out in the uk as it did in Ireland there is no fix available and all boxes will be useless as this encryption has never been cracked well not publicly anyway in the 3 yrs that it has been around so i say stick with what you have its working and when it does go see what is available then and not before no point in spending money on boxes if ya dont fully know if they are going to work or not especially in the recession we are in every penny counts now.

I don't currently own any receiver box.

Can I assume it will be a waste of time buying a new box now that Nagra 3 is looming.

Is there a really rough idea when Nag3 is properly coming out?

reckon it will be implemented by easter, if your buying, buy a second hand one, go to the Selling section on afterdawn, waste of money buying a new one

Buy a used one, yeah fair enough.

What box shall I go for? Any recommendations?

Thanks for the help and advice so far.

Starview or Dreambox? Which way shall I sway? Maybe none of those.

the cheepest one ya can find as you will not get long out of it anyway and you are not going to get any more channels with one box over another one all the same
