Hi everyone, Please excuse my very basic knowledge of XBOX modding as i've only just bought a system. I've trawled the board trying to pick up a basic understanding but i'd like a couple of points clarified if thats possible. I've a 1.6 board xbox and want to add a modchip to play backups of the games i've bought (because i'm sharing the box with my young kids). I've seen both the Xecutor 2.6 & 3 for sale, is it worth paying the extra for the 3 or would my basic backup needs be satisfied with a 2.6 ?? Does my version of board liable to cause me any problem when attaching the chip ?????? Am i correct in saying that all i need to do is flash the bios once the chip is installed and i can then play a backup of do i need to install a new dashboard ?????? Sorry for all the questions but i've started to disappear up my **** a bit with reading so many very informative posts, bit too much information overload !!!!! Many thanks inadvance
I would suggest a quick softmod, rather than a chip, many users here, myself included can walk you through it step by step to make it easiest. You won't have to open anything up, and there is minimal(if any) investment. It's very stable, and reliable. Chips seem to complicate things a bit in some cases... But that's just me.
Xecuter 3ce and you'll need the LPC rebuild board but it should be included with the chip when you purchase it for your 1.6 mobo. you are correct that with the flashed BIOS you can play any backup disc, you only need a different dash for playing off the harddrive. kc
I use a Duox2 cromwell flashbios chip and it works just as good as a xecuter in my opinion. I have used it on 8 xboxs and have had great success. it lets you use a 250+gb hdd also.
Thanks for the view guys, can a softmod be 'switched off' if i ever wanted to go on xbox live ?????????
Hi guys, i've gone for the xecutor 3ce, ordered and dispatched, thanks for everyones advice. I actually fancy the challenge of a bit of soldering !!!!!!! Where do i get and how do i 'lash the bios' after install, will i still be able to play back-ups without the bios being flashed or is it essential ?? Cheers for bearing with me on such basic Q's
there is no challenging soldering on any XBOX installation, takes about 10 min and minimal skills/effort. in theory you can only get the flash from 'XBINS' do some reading up on that, it's a big PITA the first time you do it but after you figure it out, it's no biggie. Yes the chip has to be flashed to play backups. as is out of the box it'll only boot 'home brew' applications like the flash disc make sure you get the proper flash to match your XBOX version. (in your case being a 1.6 you'll need x3 3294 v16 plus) I've modded thousands of Playstations and several hundred XBOXs and my thoughts on it are the skills required to install a chip in a PS2 are 100x that of the XBOX. learning the ins and outs of where to get flashing software and setting up the BIOS banks for proper flashing at 1000x more difficult on the XBOX. i guess they tried to make the two equally challenging kc EDIT: if you have difficulty obtaining the 3294 BIOS shoot me a PM with your email addy and I'll give you some direction.
