Hi I capture VHS via a Canopus software package via an S video input. I edit on the timeline of Vegas Video 4 and render to AVI before encoding with TMPGenc ( Question ) I'm never quite sure as to which codec to use to render my timeline to AVI. Can somebody offer an opinion on which AVI format I should choose for my best quality file Should I choose DV, Microsoft 1, Canopus codec or some other that's not in my dropdown list Thanks Scott
Well It depends on what your Source is...When you Capture what Format are you captureing to?? does your Capture Device capture to DV or Analogue ??? If your Files are Being captured with a Device Like a Canopus ADVC-50/100 ect or a Canopus ACEDVio then you will be captureing directly to DV AVI in Which case you should render useing a DV Codec...But if you are Captureing from an Analogue Capture Device to Uncompressed AVI or any other Non-DV AVI format then it would be best to Get the "HuffYUV" codec and render to it because it is one of the only Lossless codecs arround so there will Not be any Quality Loss when Rendering your project on the Time live useing this Codec, but your File Sizes will be Quite Large..Or if you are Makeing a SVCD or DVD out of the Files then you should be rendering your Project as a Mpeg2 File in Vegas as the Mainconcept encoder that Vegas Uses is Just as good as Tmpgenc and it would save you a Lot of Time haveing to render to AVI before encodeing....Cheers
