I have just bought Aopen 1608 internal dvd burner , it does not recognize any of the dvd+-r blank dvd's which I bought.
I need the dvd burner mostly for burning movies from the internet and from my own minidv camcorder.
which dvd burner do you think I should buy instead which would recognize the media and is easy to use?
Any thoughts regarding NEC ND3520 OR PIONEER INTERNAL DVD/CD BURNER 16X DVR-A09XL OR Plextor PX-712SA Internal DVD+/-RW?
Just trying to find a decent priced one...
    Thanks for the help!

My opinion only but the first 3 choices I would pick are in this order.

    1.Plextor
    2.Pioneer
    3.Nec

I'm sure others have different lists.

    i agree w/ jerry...

same order, i own 2 of the 3 drives you listed...never owned a plextor, but i've heard and read SOOOO many good things about plextor drives that it is on my list once my others die...

i have the nec 3520a and the pioneer dvr-109...pioneer is the FASTEST burner i've owned to date and the nec is one of the most rock solid, dependable burners i have...choice is yours..but, as jerry suggested...i would go using THAT order as well...

i also use a sony dru-710a daily, it's very good for my own setup, had it for well over a year with outstanding burns/results, but, others have reported headaches and problems with theirs... ??

Plextor is the RollsRoyce of DVD burners

Thats why I left Sony off the list. If you are lucky and get a good one it will be great. But some just are constant problems. I don't know if its poor quality control or what. later.

Isn't Sony really a LiteOn? All I know about burners is that Plextor is a Rolls, Pioneer a Corvette. If you're not into hacking firmware, stay away from the Pioneer ... Get a NEC, Benq or a Plextor .. You know, somethong that you can booktype DVD-ROM with ... I do like my 4X Ricoh though ...

yes, my sony is really a rebadged lite-on, but i guess i got a "good one" as jerry stated :) it's been just fine for me~ :) and yes, i was the one who told scubapete about making the pioneer bitset (booktype) capable~ :) but your reasoning makes perfect sense, if you don't want to use hack firmware, then your choices of burners have the capability to booktype using official utilities/firmwares. :)

I also have 2 of the 3 listed drives, Plextor 716 and the NEC 3520. In my opinion you couldn't go wrong with either one.
