Hi everyone, I have a question for those that know the ins and outs of motherboards. I am running an old machine (definatly not high spec) and have been given a motherboard, processor and graphics card by a mate who has bought a new pc. My question is; Is the motherboard I have been given better or worse than what I have. My PC, as far as I can tell, has the following; ASUSTEK ASUS A7V8X MOTHERBOARD AMD ATHLON 1.15 PROCESSOR ( XP2600? ) RADEON 9700 GRAPHICS CARD The board I have been given has; ABIT NF7 MOTHERBOARD ATHLON AXDA2500DKV4D PROCESSOR GEFORCE 6600 GRAPHICS CARD Are the bits I have been given better than my existing? Sorry to be vague about these bits as I am not that computer literate hence the reason for needing advice. If theres something I missed that you need to know please shout. Thanks in advance!
You new mainboard supports dual-channel memory, and is faster than your old board if you enable this feature. It is also from the era when abit was making the best boards available. If you would rather just swap CPUs, your current board should support the new chip... I say run the new chip in your old board untill the next time you wipe-out & re-install windows. Also try to find a pair (or two pairs) of identical memory to enable dual-channel mode.
