    Hello all.
First thing i must say. This forum/website is the BEST i have used/seen for DVD backing up (along with the guides at www.doom9.net). Thanks to all the great members and contributors.

I started backing up my dvds last month and finally have gotten to the point where i have a streamlined 'method' to backing up dvds. My method is a simplified one, i keep the movie only on DVD-9 discs (that way it reduces much confusion and problems of trying to fit the menus and etc on the backup); on DVD-5 dvds, i just do a straight rip and do the usual region rip, etc.

However, one thing has kind of discouraged me recently on this site. The fact that people are posting guides that require people to 'make a donation' to see the pics of the guide or to view the page.
Knowledge is power, spread the power!
and to this, i have put together my own guide. I don't know how good it is or clear it is, but its TOTALLY FREE AND HAS SCREENPICS!

i posted it at my crappy geocities website in Word .doc format (so you can download it to your harddrive and view it).
    here its at this site:
    http://www.geocities.com/daseamonkey420

hey, if it helps ya at all and you feel in a giving mood, send me a private msg and i'll send you my email for a paypal donation, otherwise private message me about the clarity of the guide!

    Keep the fight alive.

x-box games.. hmm... sounds like that will be my next project, x-box game backing up. To play backed up games, i do know you will need a mod-chip for your x-box. I have yet to get a modchip, but once i do and figure out a nice streamlined way to back games up, i'll add to my post.
PS. the guide is finished! i also added a new guide for those of us that have a SprintPCS Vision enabled phone and want to setup a webserver to host their own ringers/images.
    I'll add that tonight!

I have ripped A Simple Plan, and it is going to be too large to throw onto 1 dvd without a lot of compression. I wanted to goto step 3i where you split it. Just wondering if you had the link working yet :)

BTW, Very good work. all these guides im finally piecing all the parts together.

    Hi there.
    Sorry about that step 3i

I haven't finished this yet, since Derrow quit working on DVDSplit and is now working on DVDXCopy. I might make a link to a working split guide someone else has created temporarily.
Glad to hear that the guide is helping!
any suggestions or commments, please feel free to PM me.

Xbox original games are from my understanding burned from the outside in. The only way to backup a title is to have a modchip like X-exuter, Enighma, or Xodus/Matrix. You also have to flash the bios and have a CD program inserted or installed into the X-Box named EVO-X. This allows you to assign the X-Box an IP address then you can FTP to your PC the game that is stored on the X-Box's HD, from there some burning apps allow you to "drag & drop" or build an ISO of the image then burn to backup. Hope that helps, Dex

yea, thats what i have found out.

I ordered my matrix mod chip today.
I already found a few Evolution X v2.4 bioses to flash to the matrix chip.
Do you know how long it might take to FTP a game from the xbox to my pc via my home network?
Is anyone in the works of making/creating a program that will let you do a 'direct' xbox game copy from dvd to a blank dvd+r without the mod chip? (i guesss that would be way too easy!!)

By chance, does anyone have a working copy of EvoX or an iso image of the latest version

(impossible to find on the net, the ones i do find are the old versions 1.8 not the 2.4 or 2.5, perhaps we can arrange a deal.. PM if you interested)

    peace

    seamonkey,

I followed your guide and I have a few questions. I was successful at burning the dvd but when i play it freezes up and just stops early in the beginning and the sound is choppy. Do you have any suggestions? I am gonna try another movie and see what the results are. The movie I burnt was also under 4.3 gigs, so I just eliminated some of the steps of making the image smaller. Any advice would be appreciated.

I tried another dvd using the guide that you only use the software program dvd encryptor, I made the image and then used the software to burn the image, I followed the guide at this link

    http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/small_dvd_2_dvdr.cfm

The burn went successful and I put the dvd in my drive and it recognized it and began to play, it played for a few minutes and then froze, I tried fast forwarding it it will start to play with no sound and then freeze. can you please help?

yes i did do that. I do not have a stand alone dvd player. I was trying to play the dvd in my computer's dvd drive. The only stand alone dvd player I have is a PS2 and I am not sure if it works on it or not yet. I am gonna start researching to see if maxell dvd+r are any good and also I was burning at 2x speed, I may try 1x speed this time as the movie is fine but like I said it freezes and takes the sound away. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi nugz
well.. PS2 will actually read dvd+r backup movies without a mod chip (i love you sony!).. i use memorex dvd+r discs for backing up... its good media, but yea, perhaps try burning at a slower speed.. are you finalizing your DVDs you burn? Are you burning the DVD with multisession on or off? I always burn without multisession and also finalize the DVD.
    Peace

yeah knowing that sony does rock. I believe I am finalizing my dvd's, I followed your guide to a tee, and I am sure if I didn't finalize it would not even begin to play. I also did turn off multisession as you recommended. I will try burning at 1x tonight to see what happens. Thank you very much for helping, it is appreciated, and once again you get another fattie!

nero will finalize your Video DVDs for you.
are you still having problems? i would see if the movie plays in any other dvd player (perhaps go to best buy and put in a display model and see what happens.

-ps. my xbox game backing up tutorial will be added to my website later this week or so. I am still working on streamlining my process for them.

I have mastered burning dvd under 4.3 gig, I am still having some issues with the larger ones, but have only tried one so far. I will continue to try and I look forward to seeing the xbox guide, it will make many happy. For your xbox guide if it is as good as the dvd movie, then you definetly deserve a fatty of humboldt county.
