Wide screen vs full screen

    It seems most movie dvd's are in wide screen. My tv is 60" so a good part of the screen is not used with wide screen. When I make a backup of a dvd can the wide screen be changed to full screen? How is this done? Will changing the screen size effect the quality of the picture?

    what brand of TV do you have?

    you should be able to use the remote to set your widescreen movies to fill up the screen be using the "Widescreen Zoom Mode" thats how i do it on my Sony SXRD 60" set. it will not affect the quality of the picture

    Zooming the movie will not effect the quality of the picture but the left and right side of the screen will be cut off. So you will not get the full picture.

    When you have a 16:9/Letterbox movie there is nothing much you can do when it comes to fitting the movie to your TV screen (if some part is not used) without effecting the movie in some way.

    You can choose to fit it to your screen but it will then distort the picture stretching it vertically but not horizontal (if you have a 16:9 TV ratio)

    If viewing on a 4:3 aspect ratio TV then it will push the left and right side of the movie in and stretch the top and bottom vertically still distorting the picture.

    You can use the Zoom as suggested above. But again you will loose part of the left and right side of the movie.

    So as you can see there is really no 100% working way to do this without effecting the movie in some way.

    or you can demux your movie from widescreen and reset the ratio to 4:3! It's a process that I wouldn't even bother with! I have a 52" RCA projection and a 46" Sony LCD and this doesn't mother me.

    Even changing the aspect ratio to 4:3 and encoding it still will effect the movie in some way. Either distort the picture out of shape or cut the left and right hand side of the movie off.

    It would be more practical to just zoom/fit the movie rather then encode it to 4:3

    You would pretty much get the same results encoding the movie to 4:3 or using the zoom/fit option.

    I always backup widescreen mode. I also have the same set as aabbccdd, but the 55 inch.

    Get more of a theater type view.
