I hope you guys can help me here....

A Friend of mine did the Splinter Cell softMod on my XBox. He has done it on 1/2 a dozen other machines with great success. On my machine he said he could only get a few burned movies to play, and no burned games.

He did everything the same as he always has....said he thinks maybe its due to my xbox having a Samsung dvd drive. I looked on xbins, and they have a Samsung firmware update.

If anyone here can ofer some input on:

    1) What is the best method to use in copying my games so that I can play the backups.

    2) Has anyone experienced problems with the Evox Dash like this before? (I tend to think my xbox is more the problem than the dash)

    3) How can I tell what version my xbox is?

    Thanks for any help,

    GravityX

Your Xbox is probably 1.0 or close to it. Although I softmodded a 1.0 last month and it played pretty much anything except CD-R discs. There are certain dashboards, such as UnleashX, that will tell you what dashboard and kernel version you have. You'll have to get UnleashX on xbins, that is if you want it. You can either burn the games or play them off the hard drive. To play off of the hard drive, I suggest putting a larger one in there. The stock HDD is only 8 GB. Enough for one game (up to 5 GB) is all the space you'll have. Try updating the firmware or getting a phillips drive for those backups that dont play. Another problem could be the brand of DVD and type of DVD you're using. What brand/type do you use?

I have always used Fuji media and been okay with it. 8x DVD-R.
The version of the xbox is 1.1 Does this version require anything different, or will switching to a Philips drive be my fix? Also, once i connect the xbox to my laptop, i have no idea whee to install the Samsung firmware update. I have the Evox installed, and there is an option to install UnleashedX, which i did do. Is this thing ever going to work well as a modded xbox, or should I just abandon the idea since a 1.1 version sounds so old? HELP!!!!

    Thanks.
