Hi, I'm trying to find a way to burn a .avi video with the subtitle file (.srt) in order to watch the video in my stand alone dvd player. I read many procedures but I was wondering if my 7 years old DVD player will be able to read it. I usually only convert my .avi file to DVD format and it reads it with no problem, but if I add a subtitle file, is there any chance to work with such dvd player?
Generally, if your standalone player is DivX certified, then it can play the video file. The subtitle file carries the same name as the video file - except for the .srt on the end of the name. In the above case the video and .srt file are burned to the DVD disk as data (as opposed to DVD format). If the player is not DivX certified, then the AVI has to be converted to DVD format and the subtitles added, then the whole is authored as a DVD disk. The commercial program 'ConvertXtoDVD' can do this (the trial vesion works, but leaves a watermark). http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/ Freeware to do the same is available - it just involves more steps.
Hi man, Thanks for the reply. I have a old pionneer DVD player (almost 7 years old) so it is not DIVX certified or anything. As I said, when I convert a .avi file in DVD format with win avi converter and then burn the file with nero I am able to play it in the dvd player. I tried the convertxtodvd software to burn the video with subtitles. It is really user friendly but the thing is the result on the disc is unreadable by either my computer dvd player or even my pionneer stand alone dvd player. Some people mentionned that there was a problem with some pioneer dvd writer...but no one know how to fix the bug. I have a pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D. From your experience, any ideas on what the problem might be? Thanks for help.
ConvertX outputs the files to a folder, can you play those files ok with the media player? If so, burn the folder to disk with IMGBurn. Note that ConvertX, 'Settings' 'TV' 'Video Standard' defaults to 'Automatic', it should be set NTSC or PAL, else you get the same format disk as the AVI file. http://www.imgburn.com/ Run ImgBurn Click 'Mode' > 'Build' Click 'Output' > 'Device' Click 'File' > 'Browse for Folder', highlight on the 'VIDEO_TS' folder, > 'OK' Set burning speed to 4x and click the green write button.
I tried again to convert the avi file only. with convertxtodvd but it also automatically burned the file after. The dvd disc burned is still unreadable. Under 'Settings' > 'Burning' , turn off 'Burn Results to DVD' And under the 'General' tab, select a working folder. This is where the converted files are stored - and you can play them with your media player to verify that they are good.. The burning speed (8x) is too fast.When you burn the files with 'IMGBurn', set the speed to 4x. Also, try some 'Verbatim' brand disks instead of the 'CMC' if the results are still poor.
