I have tried several times to convert som avi files to dvd. The trouble I am having is that each time I start the process it gets about 50% done and shuts down my whole computer. What steps can I take to stop this problem. Or what I am doing wrong.

My system is Windows XP and everything is up to date. The tool I was using to convert I is call Winamp (I believe.

Usually when encoding shuts down your computer it's a CPU (or CPU cooling) problem. Video encoding is one of the most CPU intensive things your computer can do, and if you have an overclocked processor or insufficient cooling it will often shut down the computer.
