is it possible, without needing to make a new model, for the r4 team to come up with an update that will make it compatible with sdhc? 2gb just isnt enough -_- 8gb would be awesome to have, and sometime in the future 32gb =]

    I don't think so...
Unless I'm completely wrong, the way that the system addresses memory is done on a physical hardware level. That's not the kind of thing that can be "patched."

New cards come about every other month, so if you ever get ahold of an 8GB card and want something to use it with, it seems like DS cards sell fully featured for less than $30 USD......

I know that my DSTT does pretty much everything that the R4 does, and not only does it support SDHC it's cheaper by about $10.

    2tb?? as in terabytes?

i think the micro-sd card goes up to 16gb and soon 32gb from sandisk, which usually is the first to release high capacity SD cards. or maybe 8gb soon 16, one of those. i also believe that its more of a hardware problem than just a simple firmware upgrade. like you need an SDHC slot to be compatible rather than an SDHC compatible firmware. because for the micro-sd to usb reader for the usb plug will not work with SDHC, and you will need a SDHC card reader to read SDHC.

m3 real is also another solution for SDHC cards.

Theoretically, SDHC cards would be able to go up to 2048GB (or 2TB). However, I kinda doubt that's even possible... I mean, could you really fit that much memory into a card smaller than a fingernail?

Maybe, HP is currently experimenting with a fabrication process that could have things built at the 3-12nm level..... where currently, the highest-tech things are manufactured on a 65nm fab technology.

    I guess time will tell...

    2GB @ 64MB/game = 30-32 games.
    8GB @ 64MB/game = 125-128 games.

Hmmm. 8GB? Okay, here's the mix:

    12 Pokemon Diamond and Pearl episodes @ 90MB/episode = 1GB
    5 full length movies @ 400MB/movie = 2GB
    30 games @ 64MB/game = 2GB
    20 albums of MP3's @ 100MB/album = 2GB

That ought to make it through any airplane trip anywhere in the world and would exhaust the DS battery long before all the content was presented.

Oh, I fully grasp that you don't think 2GB is enough. Got that first try. That is fine. Wasn't really commenting on that.

More I was trying to wrap my head around exactly what in the heck I would fill up an 8GB card with.

So, what would be on your perfect 8GB or 16GB or 32GB or whatever card? Anybody respond. 20GB of manga? 15GB of exercise videos? The complete works for Hermann Melville in .txt? Every .jpeg of the Taj Mahal ever taken? Do tell.

According to the SD Specification Version 2.0, the maximum size for a micro SDHC card would be 32 GB. Obviously, this could change down the road, such as Version 3.0.

As for the 2 TB numbers that people have listed, that's based on the FAT32 file format that's being used by the micro SD card. The biggest problem with supporting more than 32 GB, is that Windows may have problems reading it properly (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;154997). While FAT32 can in theory support over 32 GB, it's unlikely that we'll see a micro SD card larger than that unless it uses a different file system.

No you can't use sdhc with the old R4's. You need to get the R4 SDHC cart. it is for sale at amazon.com, just search for "R4 SDHC"

    Beware the link above.

THAT IS NOT THE OFFICIAL R4 SITE.

Plus, there in nothing in the release notes that indicates that this kernel upgrade will add SHDC support.

Since SHDC support is a hardware and not software function, it's unlikely that this will work anyway.

I have tested it and it works 100%.

The firmware from the official website doesn't work and when I went to r4sdhc.com it worked for me. If that wasn't the case then I wouldn't of posted the link.

I bought a shipment of the R4 SDHC Cards + 2Gb Micro SD Cards from China. Sold most of them to family and friends but have got 30 left. I'll accept PayPal payments - £35 inc P&P from Northern Ireland.

TechZo.co.uk sells them cheaper and there customer support is excellent. They also have video tutorials and stuff.

I brought mine from them, ordered it and arrived next day.
