I'm a stodgy old bastard and believe it or not I'd never used WinAmp until tonight! I can't get over all the different crap you can do with it. I've been checking out scads of internet radio stations and even CNN news for crying out loud. Why the hell didn't you people tell me about WinAmp huh!?! All I can say right now is its an incredibly comprehensive and (so far) well laid out app - I like it! So what else is thing thing good for? What sort of tweaks, plugins and hidden features do you folks recommend for a WinAmp nOOb?
Oh, and fair warning - the first person to recommend a Top 40 ShoutCast station will be banned immediately
Don't feel bad, Neph. I have never used it either. Now, I might just have to try it to see what it is like. BTW, what is a Shoutcast station?
i was into winamp back since it first came out, which i think was about 1997. Nowadays i find version 5.x a bit resource hungry, however the shoutcast stuff is nice. All i really use winamp for now though, is to listen to the odd cd (rare as i pretty much only use my 20gb mp3 player now), and trance music via www.di.fm - loads of great stuff there..
hey Neph if you want a great catalog tool to organize your albums and whatnot, DL the Dynamic Library plugin from winamp's plugin website. It is simple yet thorough, I love it. Been using winamp for years, and I'd never use anything else, its the best (take that itunes users! ). If you want an idea of what winamp is capable of, just have a glance through the thousands of plugins. http://winamp.com/plugins/
Thanks Bruce, now I don't feel so 'out of the loop'! SHOUTCast is basically a listing of interenet radio stations that you can tune into with WinAmp. There're loads and loads of stations for just about every musical genre you can think of and there are even talk stations that offer book readings, stand up comedy, political commentary etc. Here's the link if you want to check it out, http://www.shoutcast.com/ Thanks a bunch for the tips and links djscoop. Something told me you'd have some great tips if you saw this thread
If your willing to pay you can buy DFX. If you think the sound is good now, give it a try. also the PRO version Encodes MP3's!!
the PRO version is not worth it. there are plenty of FREE mp3 encoders such as EAC, CDex, LAME DLL, and dBPowerAMP. It is neat to be able to do everything in one app, but why pay for it when other apps do it for free.
