Why does WinAvi crash? I have both the Xvid and Divx codecs installed but still I get error messages like, Winavi has to close, Also I cant merge different movies into one file, And I have the latest 7.7 version installed. Can someone offer a fix or explain why this happens, or is it a bug in the program itself, Also I've encountered the same errors in other versions

Not all programs work on all computers, there are too many variables (software installed, hardware etc.) involved.

Seeing as there are also many decent apps out there it might be best to move on.

I'v removed Winavi long ago becaus of that same issue..additionaly..I also disabled windows from viewing AVI files. that helps tremendously..I recomend anybody thats AVI active to do the same..there is a VBS download you can get from my profile page from my links..click the link and find the download..AVI search/remove..and run it then delete the file

well...AVI files can develop some tempermental issues with windows..windows default function with video files is to read the file data and produce a property value..with AVI this can create all sorts of problems for windows becaus of the codec, codec packs ..like Klite.full/mega..so on..create search redundancy with windows ..resulting in crashes..high CPU absorbtion. AVI purge will stop windows from reading AVI files to produce a property value..IE no right click property values to display...I use Gspot for that..

I have Gspot installed also But I dont have avi's disabled in windows and I dont get crashes, But my winavi just doesnt work 100 percent, as Ive heard in complaints by other users of that application So I use IMtoo Mpeg encoder, it works well for me . Sometimes I use Nerovision express to transcde movies, and to edit them too.

Thanks Snaggs for the info Much appreciated
